Whelp considering Beijing is pretty polluted and partly corrupt....good luck with that. Serves them right, pretty easy fix though if the rich were to amass their fortune and build something. http://news.yahoo.com/china-water-demands-grow-sharply-supply-shrinking-162400343.html
Actually the title of this thread is poorly worded. It's actually the reverse. It should read "China's Water Supply Shrinking" because if anything demand is increasing, not shrinking.
Yes, title is wrong, the demand is increasing. Certain parts of China are going through desertification.
Amazing that the PRC has copied just about everything from the US, but paid scant attention to the "Dirty Thirties" cautionary tales in agriculture. Given its tremendous population with little aerable land and a water table in declination, one would think that supporting that facet of their economy would become a primary national concern. Instead they're building sand islands in open waters of the ocean to land grab. Maybe they'll learn to drink salt water? Don't laugh, but I think that's eventually what they have to do; that is, massive desalination with direct irrigation pipelines into their interior from the oceans. Too little, too late?: http://thewalrus.ca/the-chinese-dust-bowl/
Wow that's crazy, didn't know about this^. They're def coming up fast in being "westernized" for sure. Cali is having that issue right now with serious drought, obviously they don't think about the future. And yet the wealthy mainlanders are trying to get out of their motherland and pollute other countries with their habits....sigh...so very sad to see this...With all that $ they have too. Apologies for the rant. This article was written in 2007 dang...
