IMHO, the proverbial other shoe hasn't yet dropped. The global downturn that the US and other western nations currently undergoing is eventually going to affect every other country around the globe; the PRC will not be immune. Since the PRC is primarily an export dependent nation, the sudden drop in overseas orders will throw many workers in China out onto the street. This is going to present the CCP with some very serious issues in terms of unrest. Several incidents like this have already been reported. The CCP has traditionally enjoyed a certain amount of political stability due primarily to the heated economy and plentiful job availability from its burgeoning export quotas. But no more; as order drops, workers are being throw out, and the populace is now going to have a lot less to distract them from their discontent. If anything joblessness may galvanize many into taking violent action. I fear that China in the near future will be quite worrisome for the average man on the street. Comments? -mellow
as much sense as that makes... the fact that China is still "communist", will help them out a lot to deal with any impending rioting... people will remember Tiananmen Square and this will play a lot into the minds of many including those who are deciding for or against rioting, it will also play into the hands of the world... only this time around, China will have anti-riot gear and it will probably not escalate higher than people getting bruised in the ass from rubber bulelts... but lets be real here... China is, believe it or not, a very stable economy... China is also a very rich nation... as much as people like to promote the fact that the wealth is not evenly distributed(and i do agree its not, but what nation does? no such thing!) China's poor is still relatively wealthy with savings... there's a reason why the US goes into debt to China every single fiscal year and not the other way around... we also can't dismiss the mass amount of cash flowing in as FDI... in the end of it all, no one on the face of this earth would watch China fall, nor would their own people... I find that China, like Japan, will be able to weather this storm a lot better than the US... frankly because they have legit reserves unlike the spend happy west...
Well, there have been alot of riots in rural china, but they haven't picked up the steam for a wholesale revolution yet.
