I'm a geography student, a lecture was given about " china in 50-100 years time ". The population will decline by then. Most chinese parents desire a " male " baby, what about the girl? Well picture china's population dominated by male in other words a SUSSAGE NATION.

getting to the point now, 50-100 years time the female population in china will decline significantly. So the males are left with one option, seek other females from different nationalities.

So there may be alot of half cast chinese/ europan, chinese, italian, etc.....

    agree or disagree? why?

ps: thank me you have obtain new knowledge :p kidding kidding but thank me? LOL XD

well that was before, its not so much nowadays so i reckon the male-female ratio will prob remain roughly around the same. also, i agree that the population won't increase much and perhaps decline in 50-100 years time cos of the one child policy. furthermore, the fact that china is developing means that sooner women will start to have children at an older age if not now cos they would want to have a career also, so the chance of having a baby might reduce.

The population would probably decline, but the males and females ratio would probably remain the same because it isn't up to the parents to choose the gender of the baby. And even if it turns out to be a girl, the parents may want to keep it or give it away to an orphanage.

Didn't they used to kill their daughter in order to make way for a son?

i like to agree with you but that can't be true. when women are pregneant, there is 1:1 ratio of male/female which it is completely randoms. Chromosomes XX (female), XY (male).

I think ( correct me if i'm wrong) Female are the dominated gender traits and regardless of how high the % ofmale population rise.. it would be still female population > male.

not really like that. they normally have a abortion if it is found out that its gonna be a girl. but its illegal to do that now days. but i know peoples with richer background normally have kids until they have a boy. they just have to pay tax to the gov.

Well China is relaxing their one-child policy. In addition to this they're also seeing the need to include women in more things just so the rest of the world recognizes them as a legitimate world power.

Also, with the booming economy, you will need more people to bolster that growth and with a 1-child policy this is simply not possible.

As Chinese culture has it, usually the children take care of their elders (ie parents, grandparents, etc). But if each family only has 1 child then each subsequent generation has to care for more and more elders, which in turn causes problems.

So will China see this in time or is it too late? I think a lot of people are moving back and whether or not this is enough to stave off the decline, who knows. While you may not see a huge increase in population I doubt you'll see a significant decline but rather a parity in the male/female population where things aren't too skewed one way or another. Nature usually has a way of preventing that.

Most of the world's population is declining so it's not really unusual.

In one of my sociology courses today we talked about populations in Asia. Japan is actually facing a decrease in population as of the 2007 survey. Currently India's birth-rate is only 1.3 whereas China's is 1.6 (based on the 1-child policy). India is pretty big at I think roughly 3. Soon India will have the largest population in the world. In order for a population to stay stable every family must have 2.1 children (factoring in probable infant deaths etc). I think currently (besides Africa) the birthrate is around 1.5 which means the human population on a whole is declining.

I think in the last census conducted, China had about 1.2 boys to every 1 girl, although I don't have any recent facts to back that up (I think my figure was as of 2000). When you talk about a disproportion of boys to girls, it's not like there's a 1000 guys for every 1 girl, but there is definitely a disparity in the number of boys than girls in China because of tradition and government policies.

1.2/1 may seem like almost 1/1 but think about that in the hundreds and thousands and you'll start seeing where the gap lies. It's pretty much saying 120 guys to every 100 girls.

ye india have no real way of stopping the amount of births occuring cos of the slums and stuff making it hard to keep track of the number of ppl there in the first place. also, its part of their tradition i think to have a big family.

You got the female phenotype mixed up -- XX for female.... o_O

I don't think you can say for certain that female is the dominant gender. It's because of many factors, like drift, natural selection, etc.

Some countries have more males than females.

the problem does not lie in the big cities like shanghai. the problems lies in the rural areas where they need boys to do to the farm work. it is there that you see the ratio of 3 boys to 1 girl. to combat this problem a lot of the rural areas have set up a "population council" where they set up policies/regulations surrounding the towns population and births. many of these areas have set up policies such as all pregnancies must be registered or they have heavy fines and abortions are also montiored. obviousily there are difficulties during pregnancy and some women need to have an abortion due to medical reasons and only those are allowed. and of course you will always have your illegal abortions but they are currently trying to finds ways around that. it is also illegal in certain to find out the gender of your child.

i saw all this in a 2 hours documentary!
