Hi, my laptop is brought from england so obviously its got WinXP (English) and when i try to install programs such as QQ it doesn't display the chinese text just a load of weird characters. I have the chinese PRC language installed and selected as default and i can type in the language but programs dont display it. Has anyone had a problem like this and does anyone know how to solve it?
You need to install the Chinese Characters. This can be done by going to Control Panel > Regional and Languages Options --> check Install files for East Asian Languages
I have done that and i can type them but when i install a chinese application it doesn't display chinese, it displays unreadable characters :(
If you got MUI, you can basically create every XP language version you want. Best if you create an UK account, HK account, etc
Hmm the MUI that i downloaded doesn't seem to install right, does anyone have a link or any further information will be greatly appreciated
If you try applocale that might work for you. Read more about it here http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx.
^ applocale won't work because it only helps to run chinese or any other programs that has problems running on an OS in other language (as its stated in that link u posted) sniperkid wants to display the char maverick directed you correctly to the right place but the thing you need to set is under language for non unicode programs, i recommend you to set it to chinese: china (PRC) as they use chinese simplified which is what most chinese char's are in nowsdays if you still dont understand check out my faq thread on the 1st post in the site and contest information
