Is it just me or im i the only one that finds Chinese/ HK entertainment kind of cheap? Like when i compare the artist from China/ HK to the ones in Korea, Japan and the US, they do not appeal to me as much. Take for example Eason Chan who is quite popular in HK to someone like Se7en or Rain (Korean) or JT (US). Another example is Joey Yung who is quite popular in HK to someone like Boa (Korean) or Mariah Carey (US). Maybe im just basing my examples on looks. lol. But when i watch the music variety/ award shows, the quality of the sets also have a huge difference. Oh Yah! one more thing when i watch the award shows/concerts the Chinese artist are always wearing something that makes me go like "WTF! are you wearing?". In addition some of their artist sound really bad live Like WTF! is he wearing? I don't know.... i think im just ranting about how China/ HK don't know how to advertise to their audience and sell to their teens. If you have any examples that contradict this idea please feel free to prove me wrong.
well Hong Kong is only a city , whereas Korea and Japan are countries. they obviously have more money to invest on entertainment. as for the outfits, idk.-shrug
yea thas kinda true.. but also.. they like to keep stuff very tradition.. and I mean even with Music Videos.. you see HK artists singing in front of a mirror.. whereas US MVs.. pple driving bentleys and got buncha dancers in the back. I guess part of the fact is do to the culture.. HK stuff is just not as extravagant.. and I think artists would much rather pocket the money. Hell with pirating these days.. HK artists probably aren't making as much now.. who knows.. =/ and yea.. I can't even stand that guy Eason.. how he is so damn popular.. I will never know...
bwahahahaa. that picture just made me LOL.. his legs!! ahahahahaha. so short and weird looking. well its not that its cheap.. they just have taste that you don't like. just like how in fashion shows.. i'm always like WTF IS THIS SHIT?? and SHIT THESE MODELS ARE SO FUGLY! somehow they just see something that i don't see i guess. -shrug
lol yer , what is he wearing, but then again, HK mvs are more , apporaite with less strippers and etc, um when it comes to those awards, everyone is wearing ' special clothes' that we are like' How on earth did they think of that '
you can't say its just one city as they've produced great work in the past , in korea most of their entertainment comes from only 1 city which is seoul but whatever the reason is for hk, the industry has had a great downfall in standards. Im not sure if investments were pulled from financial crisis or things just aren't selling well but the fact is known is that hk entertainment's really living in a shadow of its past. It was once HK> The rest of asia but now market's opened up in other countries and they're really taking it ahead while it seems like HK's downgraded themselves. As for the chinese industry in general , Taiwan/China seems to have leaped over the fence from being nowhere to being standard in the last 8 years, glad they are starting to make quality entertainment. HK> whatever it is , they need real talent agencies to train their artists to sing/dance for a few years before debuting instead of picking connections/models/ or using singing contests as their artist launching pad. how would one know they have no real talent agencies? its pretty simple %90 of the artists can't sing and %99 cannot dance. The industry is crowded with talentless entertainers no wonder its so stale. on the plus side hk's still #3 @ movies exported behind hollywood and bollywood and they make good triad movies.
if u watch mv's pre nowish you'd notice they are so less -sleep right away let me give u a typical scenario of a hk mv right now Boy or girl stares off into space and sings to song while it flashes back to a story involving either them or another person having relationship problems. i can guarantee you this for about any mv you see. there's no variety @ all they need to hire some back round dancers like they once did and http://youtube.com/watch?v=ksg8a4cUs_E dancey1 -hay1
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AQRl0up8RDE http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bl8ZE_eYaZ0 http://youtube.com/watch?v=9MiiBWOSxMA dancey1dancey1 MVs hahaha
haha i knew someone was gonna post these.. on the other note props to stephanie for being a better party girl then yumiko -sick2 im generalizing you know what i mean as there are only a small handful in a big sea of sappy love songs, and on another note when they try to make videos look up to date they usually end up looking very low budget espically that freeze video >.<
Ang, you are SO right about everything and you are thinking exactly what I've been thinking all this time. And thx for all your info. now i have so hardcore facts that back up what i believe
They're also pumping out too much content with little regards to quality. If these artists keep releasing new albums every year then even *that* particularly good song may not be memorable. The same thing is happening with the number of artsist, as people have already pointed out. There seems to be some new guy/gal on the block every other week that we're suppose to know. =|
I do find the HK entertainment look at bit cheap, n I find the costumes, sets etc used by HK singers during their concerts a bit OTT and distasteful. In the west, they take time to write new songs and bring out albums bt HK singers seem to have new albums out b4 the old one even gets sold! Think HK pple tend to try and save money as much as possible n make money as much as possible without thinking about giving fans/public FULL value for their money. They tend to cut as much corners as they can!
the trenchcoat he is wearing is from burberry does it matter how much money is put into something? isn't the entertainment more important?
I definitly find HK music/film disappointing. I recently watch L for love L for lies (which I'd really been looking forwards to for months) and when I saw the film it was like "where is the story?" "that's it?" But I do think that it's only HK because I 've watched "Happy Birthday" and "Lust, Caution" w subs and those are two really good films. HK films are a bit too predictable and boring I think. As for the music, the biggest reason why I prefer Engelish is becauseI don't totally understand the lyrics adn the tune is a bit weird (dunno how to explain)
I don't hk entertainment is cheap, compared to the other countries you mentioned above I think they go overboard for there awards shows. Hk style isn't that bad you picked the worst ppl like eason and joey to compare with the others. There are a lot hk singers and actors who good dresser like andy lau and kelly chen.
That's why I watch taiwanese channels. Channel V = awesome. I watch the blackie show just to check out tai mei. TVB is trash! Needs to upgrade.
