Sounds like luxury homes to them judging from their words compared to where they lived before. These houses are better than the flat I use to live in back in HK. Good luck to them with their new houses.

Better that some...? LOL, I don't know about the rest of the west, but they're better than a lot of houses in the US, LOL...

This one village just hit the jackpot in the Propaganda lottery. They were chosen to showcase government efforts in not just earthquake recovery, but in addition, rural reform. Most people tend to forget that the majority of Chinese still live in variations of the mud and stone hut, with no running water or electricity. This CCTV (ie Chinese government station) clip is designed to quiet criticisms that, after a year, the PRC has failed to properly rehouse the more than 4.8 million made homeless by the quakes. One village rebuilt out of the thousands destroyed means that the PRC still has a lot to do.

Please, please, please, CCP... make me eat my words and prove me wrong. Don't let this be a forgotten issue after you put the shine and polish on but a few model rebuilt villages for propaganda purposes.

*** Sidebar *** I wonder at the seismic resilience of these new homes?

kudos, that's so right. unless someone actually get there & look everywhere around, then u prove urself wrong ralph. I found myself disbelieving the Chinese gov. day by day lol

yeah some houses in the US are quite ugly, esp in the suburban area, where no one really cares. Some are very nice, then some are just nahhhh. built for different purposes & at a different time.

It's obvious that it's only a very very small portion that's like that, and those houses are a lot better than most homes in the Western countries. Homes in the U.S are very old already, most housing in the big cities are almost a century home and not counting those apt buildings.

It's no wonder so many people that have some money, goes back to China and build homes. So much cheaper and better (of course you need to get good people to build it). My aunts built a home at her home town and it's pretty good.
