I've always wondered why it is, that Chinese people are so into the "status" of owning shiny objects like cars and expensive watches. I live in Richmond, Canada. It's right next to Vancouver, and for those who don't know, Richmond is like a mini Hong Kong. When I see white people, they don't care about the fanciest BMW or Lexus or whatnot, and instead they spend on road trips and have big turkey dinners. Chinese, on the other hand, are all about saving their money, having big houses and awesome cars... I am Chinese, but born Canadian... what am I supposed to do? Hmm...
It's all about the status. If you drive mercs and lexus, people have perceptions of you being in a higher class
lol, yer, asian people like to be show offs, showing off their cars, houses , famous relatives, kids, and
showing off big houses... Mercs and BMWs... Rolex and LVs... its all material possession to show off their status and worth... and why? Asian culture always had the have "face" concept and parents push their kids to be better and become more successful than themselves... and what youre suppose to do?? do what you see fit... dun be one of those idiots who buy branded stuff to show off or keep up with the trend and high-roller status if you cant afford it.. main thing in asian family is respect and keep parents happy n proud~ -smart
wat you saying dawg? us ballas rock our grillz, diamonds, errthing you can think of that shines... and our cars r chromed out with them 24's black on black ... eff them china ppl hahahahahha
Could not agree more.. I starting to see the trend of thread just stating the chinese is like to show off and spend money... Isn't that anyone who have money would do? What else would you do with it? Are you honestly telling me that everyone beside the chinese look like HOBOs?
Well, the Asian proclivity to show off stems from the necessity to do so in their native countries. Often times, Asians can't use their houses as a status symbol like most westerners because their houses are so cramped together--so they express it in other ways (Korea-watches and bags, Japan-clothing, China-cars)
Wow, its totally different to me. I am from London were most mid age adults don't were big bling/shinny objects.
Remember that most of these people had nothing to show off 10-30 years ago. They're just coming back into power. Of course they want to show off.
