Is it just me or are some Chinese restaurant servers rude? I've been to many Korean restaurants and the servers or very hospitable, same goes for authentic Japanese restaurants. I am not saying that all Chinese servers are rude but why are some of them rude; is it a cultural thing or is it just that specific person being rude? I have not had problems with the servers from H.K. restaurants or Taiwanese restaurants maybe its just the mainland people? I am sorry if this came off offensive.
i think its a hit or miss with the chinese restaurants. Some have really nice waiters and waitress and others have horrible ones. i have been to some where the servvers are all grumylike they all didn't want to be tehre. So its just dependent, and i've gone to japanese and korean restauranrt that have givin me horrible service, enough that i left no tip and don't plan on going back to that restaurant
^^ I guess it is hit or miss, I have been to some that were nice and others horrible. I went to one today and it was so bad that I did not leave a tip. Usually I feel bad for not leaving a tip but this was so bad that I didn't even leave the change.
I usually won't leave a tip for the restaurant that I dine-in cause they already include the service charge 10% and govt tax 5% in the bill
yep its a big hit or miss... but i think it depends where the restaurant is located. its like im in china atm, any restaurant is like... service is very... hit or miss it just seems they just can't multi-task its like, this is all i do, i don't know anything else.... lolz
think it's just your luck....there's always gonna be good and bad ones... just make sure you don't go back to the same restaurant, or if you are more daring, leave a comment with the manager before you go, but remember never before your food gets served i had an experience with one before, and after telling the manager, she gave me some discounts on the final bill -whistle
I agree with you, that's because most Chinese restaurants - especially smaller ones - don't incorporate much standards. Usually, it's an owner, and he/she hires random staff to meet his/her operative goals, ie. $$$. There's little "formal" training once the waiters or waitresses are hired, and it's very "laid-back" compared to Western or other restaurants. Family-owned and smaller Chinese restaurants are overall - in general - very unorganized and have little structure.
funny i had this convo with my friends the other day.... our conclusion came to this: chinese customers in chinese restaurant don't tip much anyways (~10%- 15% max) so can't ask for too much from the server. for those cheap chinese places, i'll b happy if they can at least keep the food clean....
I was at Guangzhou this year with my uncle and I can't say I had any problems with the waitresses, all very pollite and friendly, easy on the eye too
HEY! wat's up with the bashing?! i'm an AWESOME server. if i like u a lot, i'll even give out free dessert. i'm only rude when the time calls for it. i do NOT put up with pigs who think they can grab ass.
I haven't had that problem where waiters and waitresses are rude to ya, but have you been in a Chinese restaurant where only English is written and spoken??? They couldn't even understand when i asked for Jasmine tea in Canto.....How Rude!!!
I've encountered both good and bad waiters/waitresses in Chinese eateries the world over. Some weren't so much rude as they are sloppy and filthy. I lost my appetite in GuangZhao when one young lady (who in all fairness was quite pleasant), spent the whole time looking in a mirror attempting to pop a pimple on her face with various degrees of success, then come over to serve us without washing her hands. i do agree that most chinese waitress are quite impolite. there's this chinese restaurant that i used to go to but i forbid myself to go now cause i just can't stand the waitress's attitude. she's slamming the food on your table. korean and japanese restaurants are alright so far. i haven't encounter any rude ones yet. lucky for that cause i love korean and japanese food so much.
lol when i was in guangzhou im not surprised if you get bad service....have you seen how they get treated by customers "HEY YOU COME HERE REFILL MY TEAPOT NOW!" with that said, i am yet to encounter a restaurant with bad service in australia
I think it just have some people. I've not seen a Chinese but I think any country has friendly people and against
