I was eating dinner today and my mom told me to stop buying those salty, sweet, sour snacks they have at Chinese Supermarkets because supposidley she heard from the Chinese news......again, that they are bad for your health and can kill you because they came from China, or something like that. She said something like they add a lot of deadly preservatives and other stuff to stop it from going bad and stuff like that. She also said something about those Shredded pieces of Squid that they do something to it so its really white and attractive so people will buy it. Whatever they added was bad for your health and if you eat a lot of it, it's gonna kill you. Even the Beef Jerky you find in chinese supermarkets she said is bad ( But it's from Canada, it says so on the box, lol), and she wants me to stop buying them. How could someone not live with salty chinese snacks. Is Pocky okay, hehehe
are you talking about those dried prunes n mango?? those are bomb once in awhile... n the ginger... but I heard something about the chinese beef jerky lately... n supposedly theres too much wax in vegetables now..
Yeah, I know these stories too, but I think it won´t do much harm if you eat it once a while. The bigger or more well known brands are supposed to be a little better than the totally unknown China brands as they do have to maintain a good image and can´t afford it to get bad media attention if someone dies from eating their snacks.
well essentially any of those snacks/food imported from china supposedly has been reported to use dodgy ways of making it, ie harmful chemicals to give it the nice color or flavor.... and its like they all say this causes cancer blah blah i'd say its best to avoid ones that have been reported on, otherwise "what doesn't kill u only makes u stronger?" heheheh
Everything is bad of our health... If you read the news... Almost everything cause cancer... So does that mean we should not eat anything? Well obviously no... But just have your limit when eating junkfood... I mean eating it once in awhile then it doesn't matter But if you start eating it every hour... then there's a problem
Yah, my mom was talking about those too, those prunes and mangos rock, lol. That just makes me wanna go out and buy more. lol
gosh... i bet if ur mum was living in HK she'd b eating only plain rice everyday... beef has mad cow disease... pork n sheep both also has some kinda other disease... fish has a lil bit of poison in them... vegies have too much chemicals... might catch bird flu from chicken n birds n eggs... stop worrying so much... u only get to live once... enjoy the yummy food out there
tuna's have high mercury levels... so what are sushi restaurants gonna serve? speaking of poison, anyone remember the incidents of some mainland chinese food company scrubbing moldy oranges clean and waxing them or the 'ha mai' or the little shrimps that were colored red? mainland chinese must have crazy strong immune systems...
And more recently the watermelons added with red colours to make it look nicer (or was it in Taiwan?) and a while back when they´ve discovered a serious amount of babies and toddlers are lacking of nutrition and hence suffer from related health problems. A few died too. Because a manufacturer sold WHITE POWDER as baby milk powder! Greedy bastards!
im more worried about all the chemical interactions our bodies must go through. One thing put into a watermelon might be harmless.... but then you combine it with a pesticide from an orange and you might get a carcinogen. There hasnt been enough scientific study into chemical combinations/interactions and its kinda scary considering the thousands of chemicals in our food.
It's my Mom who's scared. I've been eating it since I was little. Great, Now I have to hide everything I buy from T & T or Chinese supermarkets from my mom. =P lol
Sure, everything is bad for you if eat a lot of it. If you know its bad, then eat a little of it. If its poisonous from the first bite, then good luck to the first few customers and there goes the company.
This thread just reminds me of the research I did on organic food.. so.. any of you consume organic food btw?
Only by accident and if the usual stuff isn´t available at that moment and I absolutely need that certain ingredient for a dish. Organic stuff is still too expensive over here.
