Ok guys this is my first thread so be gentle and don't give me too much grief. I've had my reliable golf for 5 years and its now time to part ways and move on. Thought about getting a 2nd hand BMW 3 series (not buying brand new due to depreciation) or an Audi A4. Which car would you recommend, and for what reason? What are the positives / negatives? If you wouldn't choose either then what's a better alternative? My criteria's are: Compact Exec Saloon 3 yrs old Upto £12k Reasonable acceleration: looking at 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds Veering more towards diesel engine than petrol due to high fuel cost in UK Tah muchly -lol
u should be more specific than just saying a4 vs 3 series there's quite a few models within each like kdot says i'd much prefer the m3 over s4 =) im actually impressed by the 335. prefer the handling a lot more just not a fan of the audi electronic steering either way, all the cars are still stupidly cheap... it's london afterall... ur lucky!!
My full budget is £50k. But don't see the point in paying that much for a car considering its mainly for commuting to work and attending commercial meetings at various business sites. I just need a car that's comfortable and can do a lot of mileage; and occasionally burn rubber when racing my brothers honda civic. Tempted to go for BMW 320d, just not sure about rear wheel drive on BMWs vs front wheel drive on Audis. I've heard BMWs are crappy in bad weather and likely to get stuck in snow, but the drive and handling is the best in its class.
if ur spending that much time in a car, then u might as well make it comfortable and enjoyable if u just want a getaround sh!tbox, then grab the first car available that u see, and drive it until it doesn't go no more 320's are too weak for what they are, given the weight of the car just test drive them before u buy easiest thing to do
Dude you've only stated the obvious. If its a rust bucket I wanted then I wouldn't have posted a thread. The basis for the 3 series/A4 is that they are comfortable when commuting. Tsch, kids! -noclue
pffttt kidsss.... if u knew more abt them, u wouldn't have to ask either way, 320/a4 are still just the entry level cars they're never going to compare to the more luxurious models at the end of the day, u pay for what u get there's nothing stopping u from going to a dealer and test driving any of their cars, even when u don't have the intention on buying it as long as u get the feel and test out what u want, then u can go and find ur 2nd hand car if u have the budget, u mite as well go brand new. if u look after ur cars, they'll last u. if something breaks down with any of these, u know you're in for a lot of $$ to get it all fixed most things depreciate anyway, and if its something u really want/like, price shouldn't be the issue i'd personally go for the 335
i got the 320d ....LOVED it at first but gettin dull now.... me wants a gtr lol but if ur goin for an a4 or 320 ...go for 320! ps keep ur standard wheels with winters and then change the rims with better look with non run flats for normal conditions ps also a remap
