Chow Yun-Fat paying for surrogate mother

Chow Yun-Fat's mother has longed for a grandchild for years, and the Hong Kong superstar may be ready to do whatever it takes for his 90-year-old mum.

Mdm Chan Lai-Fong, in her urgency, has proposed to the actor to try surrogacy. Rumour has it that an unnamed person has offered to comb Mainland China for the perfect fit - believed to be young and of university education - for a fee of a million dollars (S$180,000).

The extremely filial Chow has been married to Singaporean Jasmine Tan, who is 51 this year, for 23 years. They are seen by the public as the model celebrity couple. Since 1991, when Jasmine had a miscarriage, the two have not tried for another child.

A source close to Chow said that the actor, who starred in A Better Tomorrow, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, God of Gamblers and a slew of Hollywood flicks loves kids. When his wife was three months pregnant Chow even fully decorated a room for the baby. He had planned to have three kids.

Sources further revealed that although Jasmine is open to finding a proxy mum, she is still uneasy about it due to the many problems it entails, and she hasn't made a decision.

Mdm Chan and her daughter-in-law have had an infamously frosty relationship for two decades, and only warmed up to each other recently. Childless, Chow currently has no heir to his immense wealth, estimated at a billion dollars (S$180 million).
