I know a girl who just joined the alpha delta kappa phi sorority. I'm kinda new to this whole "greek life" thing so was wondering what are college sororities and frats? What is the process of joining? Would you tell others to join? Penny for your thoughts! -sweat
lol you mean Alpha Kappa Delta Phi? "KDPhis spread their thighs for Lambda guys." The process of joining a frat/sorority is called "pledging". During this stage, you have to attend "rush events" where you meet with the current members of whatever house you intend to join, and get to know them (and vice versa). This is when they decide whether or not they want you in their organization. If they want you, then you'll get a "bid". Then, you'll be given a booklet that lists all the rules pertaining to that organization and things/rules you need to know in order to become a member. You also have to take a written exam where you're tested on the Greek alphabets. If you fail, you won't be "initiated". If you pass, you'll get "pinned" on initiation day by your "big bro" or "big sis", where they will literally place thier house pin on your shirt to display that you've "crossed over". My friend and I rushed LTD (lambda theta delta) freshman year just for the hell of it. I was offered a bid and I was seriously considering it. But it just wasn't what I wanted. I built up a good enough network to sustain my goals. But, I would advise for anyone planning on taking the corporate route to join. Almost every Asian American I know that has joined an Asian interest frat/sorority got a great job straight out of college and have been uphill bound despite the many bubble bursts (finance, economy etc.).
should watch the movie old school by will farrel. a comedy movie about starting a frat and getting people to join
I was totally into the frat thing when I got to college especially the freshmen and sophomore year. Come on, all those movies we have seen when we were kids about the fun, lasting friendships, and of course, GALSSSSSSS. I was a member of Alpha Phi Omega and Sigma Chi. No where in the movies ever tell you that it's fucking EXPENSIVE to join these groups so yeah, I dropped out my second year but I am still friend with the people until now. Yes, job connections straight out of college ... that's very true. I hate to say it but at least ppl from Sigma Chi are totally abusing their power at work. I remember one of my friends got a job at this reputable firm without the routine interview whilst others have to go through like 2 to 3 interview sessions before getting a final decision. Depending on the frat/sorority, some are pretty hard to get in without knowing someone and some are enemy of one another. You don't wanna hang with your "foes" .. lol It's crazy. Oh yeah, get ready for hazings .. mine wasn't too hard .. just ran naked down the lecture hall during final .. thanks to my friend's roommate who was already member. Another member has to do more nasty stuffs .. no pain, no game. Keep in mind .. joining a frat or soro gonna expand your network but you're gonna fit in if you're not the social type to begin with. You gotta make an effort and take iniative to befriend with people too just like you do in school.
Meh, I've never taken an interest to them. Good thing I've decided against taking the corporate route. Your favorite movie? lol
