LOS ANGELES — Residents at a California apartment building failed to alert police to the body of their dead neighbor because they thought it was a Halloween display, local media reported Saturday.

The decomposing body of Mostafa Mahmoud Zayed, 75, had lain in plain view of neighbors, slumped over a balcony chair, for at least three days before police were called to the Marina Del Rey building on Thursday.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Zayed had a single gunshot wound to one eye, and had apparently been dead since Monday.

Neighbors told a reporter with RMG News that they noticed the body on Monday "but didn't bother calling authorities because it looked like a Halloween dummy."

An official with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told the newspaper that Zayed's death was "an apparent suicide," but no further details were available.

NOT everyone talk and know their neighbors well .. at least I don't .. so it's hard to tell what's going ... BUT I am surprised no one figures it out that it was really a corpse and not a display from the ill smell of the decomposed body. that's an outright lie to me.

that's why it's best to stay in during halloween .. i hate the holiday .. it's pathetic.

i think "gals" should definitely stay indoor. people can do crazy things that particular day and probably get away with it too.

  12. Hard to imagine that someone could mistaken you for a dummy.

^yea, if you don't open your door and give candy, your house would be egged. Also, I am not too fond of Halloween. It's getting old.

you can get a huge bag of candies for less than $2 .. also .. most parents don't let kids eat those candies from trick or treat .. so yeah.

i am not sure if people have heard about BIG Halloween party in San Francisco before but one year that i was in town and on the very weekend so i went and checked it out... two hours into the festivity .. fights broke out and gunshots heard ... people ran for cover and it was chaotic .. luckily, our friend live two blocks from the place so 15 of us ended up staying at our friend's home until morning when everything was cleared. it was crazy .. and no one knew who was who under the costumes and make-ups.

Halloween : I don't like it, just because my direct neighbour (next door) a huge lunatic for Halloween. Last year, he poured fake blood all over his drive tru and porch and laid down with his 7 years old daughter and son (twin) look excatly like a massacre and hidden REAL ROTTEN STEAKs! so it really stink, and everytime a group of child came, the wife will run around and scream... with a sound system playing over and over again, and I HATE HALLOWEEN! WELL MORE LIKE I HATE MY NEIGHBOUR!
but beside of all those wacky stuff, other holiday they are pretty normal and nice.
