there are quite a few programs that can get the job done.
and there are two ways to do it too:
first one is the two step method:
convert DVD to MPG then to RMVB,( I use a HARDWARE encoder, slow computer...)
by the way, this is the preferred method because you can edit the MPEG data and remove unwanted stuffs like logos and watermarks.
it is important to do it, because the movie companies can trace the DVD with the watermarks/logo all the way TO YOU, if you plan to upload the "RMVB" to the NET.
Then convert the finished product from MPEG to RMVB. ( I use ERMP [easy real media producer---free program])
second one is single step method:
the converter program takes EVERYTHING on the DVD and encode it to a RMVB file with all the logo/watermarks inside....BAD IDEA!

    HTH.

well there is WinAVI, most people use it to convert stuff from RM/RMVB into different formats, but i believe it can convert stuff into RM/RMVB but you need one of the more updated ones for that lol

Winavi does not "do" "RMVB", it can only do "rm".
the difference being that winavi cant do "variable bit-rates" inside a single movie, you convert with a fixed resolution only, not variable at all....

Converting takes too long. I don't have the patience for it.
