A CRAZED chimp killed by cops after savaging a terrified woman had shared an intimate relationship with his owner, it emerged yesterday. The 200lb pet — which appeared in TV ads and shows — regularly took BATHS with doting 70-year-old Sandra Herold. He was also given the finest food and slept in the widow’s BED. The beast, named Travis, even brushed Mrs Herold’s hair each night, kissed her and pined when she was away. Now experts believe their bizarre relationship may have contributed to last Monday’s attack when Travis, 14, bit his owner’s friend Charla Nash. Hear the emergency call by using the player below. The raging chimp ripped apart her face, tore out her eyes and mauled her hands in Stamford, Connecticut. Stephen Rene Tello, who runs a Texas chimps’ sanctuary, said the animal may have been “confused” by his close friendship with his owner. He said: “This was a crazy relationship. He was probably very bonded with his owner — she was his surrogate mother. "If another person entered his space, he might consider it a threat to his territory or even his mate.” Travis went berserk when Charla, 55, visited his home. He grabbed her and sank in his teeth as Sandra battled in vain to drag him away before desperately stabbing him with a kitchen knife. She summoned police in a frantic emergency call but the enraged animal charged the patrol car, tore open the door and hurled himself at cops. The cornered officer shot Travis, who fled and was later found dead in his cage inside his bedroom. Charla needed seven hours’ surgery. She was transferred in critical condition to the Cleveland Clinic — scene of America’s first face transplant. Officials have not said whether criminal charges will be filed against Mrs Herold. She said: “I’m, like, hollow now. This was all over the news, chimps are 3 times stronger than humans and they can be very violence. Why are these people allowed to have these animals as pets, they belong in a zoo or out in the wilds. I don't even want to think of the nasty stuffs that might had happened in their bedroom and baths. >.>
read about this...its weird but then again some pple do have crocodiles an other BIG animals as their pets....
