A recent report has surfaced announcing that Dayo Wong (黃子華) has been cast in a new Hong Kong spy movie produced by China 3D Entertainment. He will star alongside Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), who he worked with in his TVB comedy, You’re Hired <絕代商驕>. The comedy film The Stand-Up Spy <棟篤特工>, with a screenplay helmed by Dayo himself, will star Dayo as a former secret agent for a British intelligence agency. After 1997—the year the United Kingdom transferred Hong Kong’s sovereignty over to China—Dayo’s character returns to Hong Kong after getting dumped by his mother in England. In Hong Kong, the kind-hearted Dayo opens up a special private investigation agency to help his clients patch up broken relationships. His normal life is disrupted when Charmaine, a triad “ah so” just released from prison, crashes into Dayo’s agency to demand an apology. It turns out that Charmaine had sought Dayo’s help in searching her missing husband ten years ago, but Dayo was unable to solve her case. One day, Dayo and Charmaine are asked to solve a case involving a “truth drug”—a synthetic drug that causes people to release the ugliest side of themselves. Just as they think they have taken down the big boss, Dayo and Charmaine discover that the drug actually never existed. According to various sources, The Stand-Up Spy draws inspiration from Disney’s 2016 blockbuster hit Zootopia, an animated film about a rabbit police officer and a red fox con artist attempting to solve a conspiracy within the metropolis. Another source said that China 3D Entertainment will not be showing The Stand-Up Spy in Mainland China. However, China 3D Entertainment CEO Siu Ding-yat (蕭定一) expressed, “The movie is currently in pre-production. We make all our movies with a Chinese release in mind.” Creds: ihktv
First thing, awesome to see Dayo back on screen with Charmaine! Second eh all stories come from one source or the other eventually. Third of course they're going to show it in China it's an easy money grab, but if they don't I wouldn't care as long as it's shown in HK. China needs to get off the sensitivity wagon...
Dayo has admitted himself that most of his movies have been box office poison even though it is his dream to be a great actor. Maybe he should stick to acting in tv series and standup.
looking forward to this, their last collab was pretty good. I think of all post-War-of-Gender dramas Dayo was involved in his with Ada was my favorite, 2nd has to be Kate
OMG!!! My favourite co-star with Dayo aside from Ada Choi. I LOVED You're Hired (and Zootopia)... I can't wait!
