We've long considered Image Rescue an essential part of a working photographer's toolbox, because in addition to its ability to recover JPEG, TIFF and various RAW formats it can also test a card to help determine whether it's healthy enough to remain in service, and secure erase a card to get rid of improper formatting or a corrupt file system. Image Rescue's makeover in version 3 means an important piece of software has gotten easier to use.

Image Rescue 3 system requirements are Windows 2000/XP and later (as noted, the software will run on Vista). Unlike a much earlier version, Image Rescue 3 will work with any brand of card and reader, it's not restricted to Lexar products.

A license for the application will be included with these card lines (the software itself can be downloaded here), as well as all others in Lexar's Professional and Platinum II CompactFlash and SD/SDHC series. Lexar will also release a free updater for earlier versions of the application.

    Screenshots

Here's a glimpse at Image Rescue 3's new look. These screenshots are from the Mac version; the Windows version is very similar but not identical in appearance.
