Me and my friends watched the Academy Awards/Oscars tonight up for the best screen playwrite was the guy who wrote the screenplay for The Departed when he won, the woman announcer said "blah blah blah The Departed, based on a japanese film" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my friends threw a freaking fit Halarious, yet sad
lol now the world is going to think japanese films are the bomb outta all the asians. i say this because americans are stupppid when they watch stuff on tv. Well now at least infernal affairs is going to be exposed.
well two things 1) Infernal Affairs trilogy is now being not just sold, but advertised for sale within American 2) the movie accepies did say, thank to the writers of infernal affairs (two HK people's name then mentioned)
ignorance in hollywood...that ass director rips the movie off n gets an award for it and they cant even recognize the original properly...
I've always thought there must be some sort of Oscar rule that a nominated film has to have an original script and not a remake! Now everyone is going about 'what a great director' that Scorsese is -which he surely is but not for The Departed-, thinking he's the genius behind all of this. So, perhaps HK filmers should remake a Hollywood blockbuster, send it in for the Best Foreign Film category and take that Oscar back. (but then, I guess we Chinese are too proud to remake a US film*) * Doesn't count for the many, many covers of Western pop songs though...
my friend and i were just talking bout this! it's soo stupid... stupid ripoffs, they shouldn't have even gotten the oscar
A while back, way before the Departed came out, a friend of mines asked me if Ive seen a Japanese film called Infernal Affairs. I immediately corrected him, stating that it was a Hong Kong flick. My friend happens to be Brazilian; born and raised in California. It should suggest that most people who are not Asian have a hard time distinguishing the Chinese from the Japanese. It does suck because now some people might give the Japanese credit for making such a brilliant film. By the way, Infernal Affairs appeared in limited theaters around the U.S. a few years back. At that time no one cared to go see it. Well Asians didnt need to go see it becuase either they seen it before or they knew that they could find it at their neighborhood DVD/VCD store.
Haven't seen Infernal Affairs, but Departed was a laaaaame movie. at least, I personally don't understand how it could have beaten out those other movies... I swear, what's the point? it's just killing all over the place. LITERAALLLALLAY -_-
but even with infernal affairs, 1 was good 2 was made just to make 3 >< guess its just worse for them to remake it and its just not as good...
i dun agree i liked the departed i will say i LOVED infernal affairs but yea i still liked the departed and i went with a friend who had never seen infernal affair and she LOVED the departed i think lots of asians are looking at the departed with a major bias i'm just mad at the misquoting at the award show
O yeah , I caught that bloop too, I was pretty disappointed and the departed sucks ass compared to infernal affairs, the acting skills is under par, and the script was eh. nothing compared the tony leung and andy lau, 100 times better.
