I'm Asian born in America. I never payed attention in school that much, now I suffer the consequence. I always play around in school, and the head of the class clown in school. I plan to finish my basic in a community college close to home. So i could finish the rest at a Universities. Now that will even take longer. I took an entrance exam and didn't so good. So now I have to take development classes, and wont be able to take college course. WASTING one year, that really suck. Most of my aunts and uncles are doctors. I feel ashamed like I didn't make them proud. They all went to my graduation and said we all are proud of you. I felt guilty cause all i did was try to make like a passing grade and slack off. I did not try to compete for A's or anything like other Asians. My family thinks I am doing good in school. I feel weird\sad\and something else don't know how to describe. When they ask me these questions. Hieu what university are you going to? Hieu what courses are you taking? ETC......... This is like crazy.... from Kindergarten to middle school and high school that freaking 12 years i never receive like AWARDS like honors or anything that how bad i was. My mom always compare me with like Asian A's student and stuff like that. lol i feel 1% better typing it out... anyone with same situation as mine?
well at least u know u didn't try and can aim to do better learning from mistakes and gaining experiences is what life is all about seriously tho, just bcos they're a doctor or wateva doesn't mean much... not to me neway... it doesn't mean they're that smart... many other things in life that much more effort than to get to be a doctor... its just like any other exams it's a matter of finding what u want to do, and pursuing that the hardest thing i've found is to find what u want (i still dont' know wat i want) just find what u want to do, and aim to do that, and b proud =)
lol, yer i always get compared to my parents ' nerdy children, lol all they do is study, lol they're like kinda retarded but they do all the work, lol and my parents always say, why cant you be smart like them , lol
up in the EXACT same situation as you, lol but i don't really care, just know that as long as you have control of your life, you're fine
thanks i still dont know what i want to do too. and my parent wants me to be some kind of doctor they tell me every day its annoying.
So.. think about this. If you do get the the level of academic success where you get into the medicine field, but you absolutely hate it, you will literally fail at it. You will hate going to work every single day, which won't be of benefit to you or the patient. I know someone who did their medicine course because her parents wanted her to do it (cause their family had history of beign doctors and what not), and after 2 years she was so fed up of it, she phoned the Newspaper comapany asking for a job as a medical journalist; She was given the job right away. I know there is the pressure from the parents, particularly Asian ones, they want you to do this and that.. I can't offer any good advice on how to deal with your parents; Maybe talk to them about it? Or maybe even your aunts and uncles who are doctors about the pressure that your parents are putting on you.. I'm sure they can give you some valuable advice.
i still advise for u to stand up and go do something that u personally want to do thats the hard bit... finding out what it is alternatively if u don't know... u mean time u can still go do medicine, etc... nothing says that being an engineer or scientist or artist or sports person etc is any less successful than a doctor. look at soccer players for eg, one weekend can earn more than doctor does in a year... first things first... find out what u want mayb u could look at r&d stuff, eg developing drugs or devices etc something like that =) without them, doctors r pretty much useless =P once u find out what u like and do well, i'm sure parents will support u =)
Im kind of like you at the start, when I was younger I used toget all these bad grades, then my parents will be screwing over my results. But now since attending college/uni they dont really care what I achieve. I think you should just do whatever you can do, no point in forcing yourself to do stuff you dont want to do.
Absolutely agree with the people before me. Always do what you love to do because if you don't, it will bite you later in life. If you don't want to be a doctor, don't be a doctor and instead find something that you love to do. Your family will support you for it (if not now, they will in the future). I was in the same place you were when I entered college. I didn't do so well in my math entrance exam (never was a math person) so I had to take some 2 or 3 remedial math courses. At first, I hated it but I grew to like those classes because I was one of the best in the class. LOL. You'll never know!
My mum always compare me with everyone that is smarter than me and urged me to become a doctor or a lawyer. But I didn't listen, my reaction was like "Screw this my life, I'm doing things my way" so high school bludged around and in uni I'm doing IT and Business. Screw doctor or lawyer...not into those kind of stuff...
lol, yer, but she only wants you to get money . make life easier by being doctor or lawyer, but its a ton harder , lol IT + Business = win !
how hard is it in sydney, lol its like 99.7 or something to become a doctor or laywer or something ,lol the scores are crazy lol
being doctor or lawyer doesn't mean life is any "easier" not a fan of law subjects... too boring but hey... its mainly open book!! =D hahaahah med uai much lower as its dependent on interview~ so u kinda only need like 95 or so (or thats wat it was lol) i believe its com/law thats high with uai =P plus i still believe laywers are heartless =P ahahah
college is not that much easier than university...and not ever asian is fit to be a doctor...don' care wat ppl say..its ur life
