Wednesday July 11, 2007 Hong Kong 'Devil’s Disciples' Under Scrutiny for Plagiarism In recent years, quite a few of TVB’s dramas have said to be plagiarised, with Bosco Wong and Kevin Cheng’s new series ‘Devil’s Disciples’ (強劍) being the latest under scrutiny. The first chapter of the series was broadcasted on Monday night and viewers were easily able to see the similarities ‘DD’ had with earlier ancient kung-fu movie ‘The Storm Riders’ (風雲之雄霸天下) through it’s characters and setting. It has also been pointed out that the ‘sword tomb’ scene in ‘DD’ is an exact copy off ‘TSR’. Earlier in the year, TVB’s ‘Family Link’ (師奶兵團 )has been said to be an adaptation of US hit series ‘Desperate Housewives’ while ‘On the First Beat’ (學警出更) has been closely compared with ‘PTU’ and ‘Crazy n the City’. Debuting on the small screens on Monday, ‘DD’ has said to be copied off a 9 year old movie ‘TSR’. The setting of the series is definitely similar, with the character played by Kao Hung (高雄) alike the one played by Qian Ye-Zhen (千葉真) in ‘TSR’. Both characters come from a similar background, have a daughter and are leaders of a good martial arts group. The funniest thing is that the first scene of ‘DD’ features Bosco Wong and Johnson Lee, who are obviously imitations of Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng from ‘TSR’. As for the leading ladies, Bernice Liu and Shirley Yeung, one the daughter of the leader, the other a girl from a minority tribe, are respectively copies of Kristy Yeung and Shu Qi’s character. ‘DD’ is also not your average ancient series as English lines are also incorporated into the script. For example, when Wayne Lai says, ‘兜個Round來踩我呀?’ to Bosco. credits: sina.
i liked that series.. it wasnt that bad alot of ancient tvb series are predictable and usually the plotline is simliar so yea.. could be easily mistaken -shrug
It's difficult to be original these days.. and most times I do not mind cuz I like the TVB spin on things. DD was not a great series but it had its moments. Wayne Lai and Bosco were so funny together..
