In south of china, especially in WUHAN,eclipse last for 9 mins...but unfortunately,i live in north, just saw the partial solar eclipse..still beautiful...:wiggle:
I'm in Australia, but wasn't the eclipse quite early? I though it was 7am ish just when eveyone is preparing for work?
The people in India (supposedly the best spot on earth to see the eclipse) got skunked; they were overcast with clouds and saw nothing...
i dont see the big deal, an eclipse has happened before and it will happen again. dust clouds turning day into night is more fascinating.
But I thought they that it only happen in China every 700 years or something? Well either way, I think people in China see any new things,, it would be amazing thing to them due to their culture -_-
Actually, to see things like eclipses in China is generally considered an omen. Lunar eclipses (where the earth casts a shadow on the moon) aren't so bad, but solar eclipses (where the moon casts a shadow on the earth, in effect blocking out our view of the sun) is an ominous sign. It usually heralds some calamitous change (eg death of an emperor) or other very bad event. Court astrologers who failed to properly predict such things lost their jobs, along with their heads. Let's hope the Chinese continues to march forward without any, er... celestial hiccups. Probably a lot safer than trusting your eyes to those dubious plastic filters sold all over china. I'm imagining something along the lines of Day of the Triffids (1960's sci fi movie where everyone wakes up blind because they had witnessed some brilliant cosmic event the previous night)...
