i dont mean those who lost their eye sight by accident or illness. i mean those who are blind when they were born. Do they dream? what do they see? i am so curious. :ugh:
Dreams are a construct of a mind that uses past memories as a frame of reference; if there is no visual frame of reference (like that of a physical world previously seen), then a dream may be reliant on a mind's construct derived from the other basic senses (taste, hearing, touch, and smell). An example of this would be to dream that one is riding in a car; for the visually disabled, one might wake and recall feeling the sway of one's body as the car rounded a corner, or being thrown forward against the seat belt (and the feeling of pressure on the waist and chest) as the vehicle suddenly came to a halt; others may just remember a general feeling tone (contentment, fear, hunger, et cetera). Also, the congenitally blind do not have (or very little) Rapid Eye Movement (REM, a stage of sleep in which the most dreams occur) as they dream. Conversely, the deaf or profoundly hearing impaired from birth also dream but theirs rely more strongly on visual imagery and less on sounds. Really good thought provoking question and I thank you for asking
It just wouldnt be the same dreams you have, for example if they anchor your voice to a body, the body may not be humanoid or human looking because they dont know what humans look like. so that would be totally random.
yep, they have auditory dreams, basically a dream without the visuals. http://van.physics.illinois.edu/qa/listing.php?id=765
I think blind people might dream about dots cause they touch the dots to read or type I think. Don't know what those dots are called but there is a specific name for it.
Why 'think'? Just ask a blind person.
