OK, my other poll was about Chinese people like the number 8 (e.g. use on car plate). OK, so you are "FAT" now. How much do you donate money to the poor and the third world countries? -rockon
Its the opposite over here. If I donate, they will annoy me even more asking me to donate more. Same with most other charities, once you donate they like register your name or something and always ask you to donate again because you've done it before.
I remember back when Hurricane Katrina struck.. there was an elderly couple begging for donations in the streets of Chinatown, claiming that they were going to donate the amount to aid the victims of Katrina. Sadly, I and MANY others donated. Thinking back now, I come to believe that I was cheated.. and they were a pair of despicable couples cheating everyones money through the hurricane disaster.
donate safely for a good cause I donate to registered charities directly through the banking system to avoid cheats on the street since they can cook up some bogus identification and charity names. Also look out on their official publication to see what percentage is actually donated to charitable cause. I ususally go for the > 90%. Some "bogus" registered spends >90% on adminstration and staff costs which means less than 10% goes to the needy people. One of my examples: I like eating so each day that I eat US$2 goes to old people for food and other essentials straight from my payroll.-chef
The thing is, Katrina struck and I didn't really feel like I was going to donate. When those elderly couple was on the street asking everyone to donate, I just felt obligated to donate... since it's such a tragedy. I don't know, it was something about the elderly couple and how they were begging that convinced me to donate. Bastards.
I personally do donate to charities such as oxfam and stuff cause im fortunate enough to when i do make proper money, i do plan to donate regularly cause its worth doing some good
I donate atless 10pound once or twice every half year. Or just send my old clothes to the charity organization.
i would donate more than those amounts if i was a successful person, but i think that's not enough..got to make people more aware of social issues
Although I think helping people is very noble, I personaly think there are many other issues that require much more attention & contribution i.e. global warming, a sustainable economy.. for me that is where my money goes towards.
I believe in giving back to the community and to people. If I can't give my time and services, I want to give anything that I could. Whatever good you can do, you should do because I am a stronger believer in karma.
I only donate to organizations I like such as Doctors without borders, UNICEF and Orbis. Never liked United Way, don't know why and don't want to find out why. And yeah, to those who lives in the area, I fragging hate that Sick Kids ad. Hate the fact that they use the patients to guilt-trip the public.
