So do you agree or not agree that the original story/movie is always better and that the sequel is not good?
Definitely the majority of films always are best in the originals. Sequels always pull the story off base and because they lack a story to tell they end up throwing together a bunch of material/ special effects together that in comparison are too try-hard. Rarely there are a few good ones out there but i cant think of any at the moment.
haha, some movies if there are sequels are good but not every movie since the storyline may be twisted in order to extend them
depends...if it's one of those "wanna earn more money by riding on the popularity wave of the debut" type, then chances are the storyline stinks
totally agree most sequels are a big disappointment in comparison to the original. however, you do get a few good sequels every once in a while (shrek, spiderman, x-men)
i agree... i think sequels really are bad... they never really live up to the first one. probably the best ones are like shrek and bridget jones, i reckon -havent seen spiderman or xmen sequels yet...
the original is mostly always better. its more original. the sequels are just junk. they mostly have no connection to the first.
sequels ?? well , it depends ....... some , they love to drag the storyline and the ending will be a disappointment .......... other than that i think sequel is fine to me .............
most of the time..the originals are better..eg Battle Royale =D, there are some exceptions..but can't think of one atm..lol
Depends, although most cases the original is better due to the originality of the subject at hand. I personally liked T2 better than the original, same with Alien (though Alien 4: Resurrection is a flop by and by)
Agree with most of the comments above. Sequels never really live up to the original. Though in some cases the original movie is not as good as the sequels. Some examples of crap sequels: Jurassic Park Matrix Aliens Ocean's 11 (Hope Ocean's 13 will be good. Fingers crossed) Batman The Bourne Identity Mission Impossible Kill Bill Some examples of good sequels: Terminator (T2 is the best although T3 was WACK!!!) Rocky (I like all of them equally) Lethal Weapon (Like all of them) Drunken Master (Both are good) Star Wars (Havent watched all of them yet but they are really good) Battle Royale (I personally prefer BRII over the 1st) Die Hard (Best one is DH3) Can't think of any more at the mo...
Sequels tend to be bad as most are just the movie industry seeing that the first film did well, push out another film on the back of it. The ones that are slightly better are when the director/writer planned out several films or are based off books which have strong content. Godfather films are one of the better sequels. No way, can't agree with those. I'm presuming you've not seen Episode 5/6? They were so so bad, George Lucas is just a fat wash out now. Battle Royale II was just plain horrible, another one that just got made quickly (and thoughtlessly) on the success of the first film. The first film was unique and somewhat of a "so dumb it's good", but the second was pure cringe worthy. Die Hard, the first was probably best imo, 3 had Samuel L Jackson which lifts it up a bit but the story was so poor and Jeremy Irons (who is usually a good actor) was horrible in it. Hopefully Die Hard 4 won't suck, Bruce Willis says so himself that it's pretty good - I know it sounds like he's just trying to sell his own film, but he's a very straight talking and says things how it is. Another sequel coming up, Rambo 4 anyone
LOL. Like i say to people all the time, everyone has their own unique taste. I saw the trailer for Rambo 4 (One of Mav's threads) and it was very bloody and gruesome. Thats why i will watch it. Probably be a crap movie but i will still watch it. I love gore. haha.
Great lists!!! I don't really follow some of them though I thought the absolutely original Star Wars was WAY better than the sorry excuse of multiple sequels... Oh, anyone have anything to say about Indiana Jones? I like the sequels better... -unsure Hope this upcoming one is as good I found Jeremy Irons and that women HOT beyond any belief... Although I must say the whole "drill a hole underground to get the gold" is a bit cliche.
Oh yeah they were good, I quite like the 3rd one as Sean Connery did a good job of playing the dad. You found Jeremy Irons and the woman hot? Not fussy eh? It wasn't so much the plot but the poor acting and the whole "wrong place at the wrong time McClaine" thing, reminds me of Speed 2 - what an ill conceived pile of drivel that was.
Well I guess I just find the somewhat angry pre-sex between Jeremy Irons and the woman HOT! He's like... hmmm very cool... Although I must say, I HATED Die Hard 2. I guess I am just not a comedy person @_@b
well, imo, comparing orginal vs sequel, i would tend to think original is better in some cases.... but between PREquel and SEquel, i would say sequel is better.... i like stories going FORWARD not backward lmao
@dann: The problem with many PREquels is that they are an accident... When the original was made, no plans for the PREquels is in place, so the story didn't have enough hints and lines which can be picked up by the PREquel to connect the two... IMO, a good prequel is one that has mysteries which were answered in the original (which could be something totally insignificant) No matter how minor the detail is, when there are clicks which connect the original and the PREquel together, it is one brilliant prequel... But alas, it seldom works that way because producers do not want too many relatively "unnecessary mysteries" in the film just in case it was not well received enough to warrant a PREquel...
