does it feel ubbbber hot...? i know my lappy gets ubbbber hot and the fans start rawrrrring @ me when i have my lappy on a cushion or on my bed for some reason =/
I myself have a toshiba and it can get pretty hot. If you're running vista I would suggest you get tuneup utilities. It helps you speed up your computer in various ways and it also has a turbo mode that turns off a lot of unnecessary features that vista has under the hood. I noticed a decrease in heat when I had those features turned off, regardless of what I was doing.
thats probably because when u put it on a cushion or on ur bed, it doesn't give a big enough gap and therefore the hot air can't escape as quickly from ur laptop. u shouldn't need a cooler for a laptop, the laptops are designed with a fan suitable for it to cool the machine down. if it gets hotter, the fan usually spins faster to get rid of the heat. though u can get a cooler just for extra piece of mind to get it cooler quicker. as normal laptops are not designed for gaming and therefore they can get quite hot if ur gaming. having said that it also depends on make. sony should be fine i think. but fujutsus get very hot i find. if in doubt u can always just put a stapler underneath the laptop. that way it will cool down as well so there isn't rele any need for a cooler.
As what they mentioned before, the air isn't vented properly if you place it on your bed or on a cushion as your bed or cushion can shape itself and partially block the vents of your laptop. You may also need to use compress air to clean out the vents, to remove dust and stuff that gets into it making your fans more efficient.
btw, laptops are not meant for you to put on cushions, or bed as that will seal up the heat, as you can tell that all laptops have 4 little legs and it is for the laptop to stand on the flat surface and have the underneath side to not trap the heat... think about this, the cooler is a marketing thing, it has fans that is placed underneath the laptop, powered by usb, i really doubt it has much improvement on the laptop itself...i don't say this because i don't use it, i am a computer supplier myself... bbes, there are gaming laptops and they are meant for portable gaming, however those have another vent/fan to cool the GPU inside
It is always a good idea to have a cooler for a laptop if you use it a lot since it does get very warm. I find it helps a lot to cool the laptop but a laptop cooler is not absolutely essential.
