Starring in the new film Wu Xia, Donnie Yen Chi Tan yesterday gathered a group of young martial art students to unveil the film with a giant poster. The event arranged for the children to perform a martial art demonstration and reminded Chi Tan of when he studied martial art in his childhood. Chi Tan said, "I was just like the children here, studying the Northern style long fist. However that was several decades ago." As a father Chi Tan said that he would permit his children to learn kung fu and would even personally instruct. Chi Tan said, "Of course I would permit other teachers to teach them too, they could be more obedient. However I was afraid that I couldn't hold my tongue."

Yen Chi Tan said that he did not start studying kung fu until he was nine, which was considered late. Chi Tan said, "My son is still little, he's only 4. He can start when he grows up a little more. Martial art is an individual endeavor, it depends on your own interest as well as fate." Chi Tan also revealed that many people asked whether he would open a school, but despite his martial art background his career was still film. He said, "A school at most could only teach 1,000 people but a movie could be viewed by many, I could promote martial arts through film."

yeah that's true, with his iconic figure, movie is a good way to 'advertise' martial arts.

donnie yen is a GREAT fighter. probably one of the best martial artists in the world today. i love his films, not many action stars have martial art skills like this guy. his movies could add more comedy though, but nobody can replace jackie chan in action comedies.

Dude you have no clue. Cinema martial arts is very different from tournament fighting.

How can Donnie Yen be a 'great' fighter when he hasn't fought any professional fights? Tyson, Mohammed Ali, Pacquiao, Apidej Sit Hirun: 340 wins 1 draws 10 losses, known as 'The Champion of Seven Titles', the most fearful kicker that Muay Thai may ever have seen; Buakaw Por Pramuk: Buakaw has fought over 400 times(150 pro fights) since the age of 8. These are 'Great' fighters.

Donnie Yen is Hong Kong's top action star, and a good cinema fight choreographer. I enjoy his movies, and both SPL & Flashpoint are on my top 10 action movie list. But great fighter............not by a mile. -nono

So get off your arses and go to a martial arts gym. Half the battle is motivation. A great teacher is no good when the student is a couch potato. And before you ask why I'm on Pop Asians its cos I have insomnia and can't sleep. That's why all my posts are after 12am.
