GTV and CTV expended tens of millions of dollars on their promotion budget for [Down With Love] which was scheduled for release on 24 Jan 2010. However the big shock came when just before [DWL]’s scheduled same-time telecast in China and Taiwan that the approval is still pending in China. Hence this affected the telecast schedule in China and the idol drama has to be urgently delayed for a week and its telecast postponed to 31 Jan 2010 instead. As publicity has already been done for nearly 2 months and all activities promotion have been arranged, the TV stations could only add another NT$1,000,000 to the publicity budget to change all the earlier released telecast times on the bus, television and internet advertisements to the new confirmed timing. The annual big production for GTV and CTV – [DWL]’s publicity budget is five times of that of an ordinary idol drama. Its advertisement adopted various channel in its publicity via television, internet, radio as well as 290 public buses around Taipei. The original telecast date of 24 Jan has been postponed to 31 Jan since its television advertisements last Friday. The change of dates immediately attracted concerns from Jerry’s and Ella’s fans. GTV’s Head for Public Relations Cai Fei Qiao replied, “[DWL]’s telecast approval for China is delayed for a week. Hence our partner in China has requested for us to delay telecast. In place, we will add on further behind-the-scene shots from Hangzhou as well as the premiere details, so viewers can have 1 more episode of Exclusive BTS Special.” When asked what if the approval is still not ready in a week’s time, Cai emphasized, “The delay in the approval this time round has nothing to do with the storyline. It is rather a procedural situation. Regardless what the eventual result may be, CTV will definitely telecast [DWL] as scheduled on 31 Jan 2010.” Meanwhile GTV has also confirmed that [DWL]’s telecast will be changed from Saturday to Sunday, at 8pm. [DWL] Premiere on 20 Jan 2010, Stella Huang Sponsors Wedding Flavours Jerry Yan and Show Luo (Xiao Zhu) were rumoured to be not on good terms. Hence with CTV’s recent reschedule of telecast timing for [DWL], some sources speculate if it could be because they wish to avoid a direct clash with Show’s [Hi My Sweetheart]’s last episode. To this, Cai clarified, “[Hi My Sweetheart] is also telecast by GTV. Both idol drama serials are our production. If we wanted to avoid any direct clashes in the first place, we could just have arranged for [DWL] to be telecast on 31 Jan 2010 right from the start, instead of having to spend more on publicity now on the change of timing.” The premiere for [DWL] will still be held on 20 Jan 2010 and the ballroom will be decorated like a wedding party for Jerry and Ella. Director Ke Han Chen will be the chief witness for the “wedding”.
