Drug Scandal May Cost Candy Chang's Acting Career

In late November, Candy Chang (張慧雯), of The Hippocratic Crush < On Call 36小時> fame, was arrested for drug possession. Police stopped the car she was in when she and a male companion were found speeding along the San Tin Highway. After a search, the police found 13 bags of marijuana in the boot of the car.

Currently, Candy is on bail pending further investigations and will have to report back to the police station on December 28. Previously given a role in TVB drama, Master Understood <師父‧明白了>, she has to be removed from the cast because of her suspension in TVB now.

After a meeting with The Hippocratic Crush executive producer, Poon Ka Tak (潘嘉德) yesterday, there were speculations that Candy may be taken out of the sequel, in which she has a big role.

Too Disturbed and Confused

Accompanied by TVB Senior Executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), Candy attended a press conference to clarify herself. She expressed that she felt disturbed and nervous over this matter. She vehemently denied that the marijuana found in the car belonged to her.

“I did not come into contact with the drugs. Because the case is still under investigation, I cannot share too much. However, this incident has taught me to be wiser, to be careful of whom I befriend.” Candy added that the male suspect was a platonic friend she got to know 2 to 3 weeks ago. However, on the night she was stopped by the police, she claimed that the man was just a driver, who was introduced by a friend, to take her home. It appears that Candy’s current statement did not match her previous explanation.

End of Acting Career?

Candy is hopeful that this drug scandal is not going to affect her career as an actress. When asked if she is still going to be part of the cast of The Hippocratic Crush 2, she said, “I am not sure. I just hope everyone can give me support and advice.”

Virginia Lok, who earlier stood by Candy’s innocence, clarified, “Candy has a large role in The Hippocratic Crush 2, but we will only begin filming next year so decision will only be made after we hear about the development of the case.”
