I just got a new laptop
and i decided to partition it out, and try to install an instance of Vista, outside of XP

anyone interested to know how it will go?

I've done a little research, just incase, cuase i know i'm not the first one to try this
and from what i've learned so far

    even on the Microsoft site
it says to install the different OSs in order of release, or else the newer OSs will not boot if you instal an older OS last

    funny

anyways, I'll update on my experiance
but only if people are interested

  2. YES! please do.

are you using the beta vista or the final release?

its possible but you have to have vista as the partition 1 and XP as partition 2

lukcly for me i use ubuntu, it has grub loser for me so i can all 3 OS if want to but Vista is crap, but thats what i think

I've been using the beta and xp home. No problems, but I don't use vista much as there are no dirvers for my ati radeon all in wonder and other older hardwares. Don't think ever upgrade until a new machine.

Wow cool. Please tell us how it goes. I reckon it'll ask you which OS you want to boot instead of them dual rebooting. Because I install two OSs on my computer once, one in my C drive and the other in my D drive and whenever i start up my comp, it askes me which one I wanted to boot from, but then I install them in two differet drive....Are you installing both of the OSs in the same drive ?

For dual booting, it doesn't matter wheather they are on the same hard drive or not, but definitely on different partitions as they use some of same folders, therefore one version will over-write the other, making the files imcompatible with the systems installed.

    Nirvania I'm BRACK!?

i did it with the RTM. got works pretty well, you may need to download Vista Boot Manager from Neosmart Technologies. I got rid of it because my graphics card will only run on 84.56 Nvidia Drivers. If i want to upgrade to vista, i have to change my 7600GS or my VIA mobo.

Note to everyone: NEVER BUY A MOTHERBOARD WITH A VIA CHIPSET!
