I'm having problems with my dvd-rw. When i insert a blank disk to burn things..i drag the files into the e: drive and click write files to cd...and it says please insert a cd but the cd is already inserted. It reads other cds but it just doen't seem to read blank cds. It was working a while ago but not sure what happened.. tried those instructions shown on the microsoft website but doesn't seem to help. any advice on how to fix this??

yeah stuff like this, its cheaper to replace than fix
and replacing it only takes like a few minutes

think of the time and money saved =)
plus, good excuse to upgrade all ur other stuff too while ur at it =P

i had a similar problem too...as i can burn DVD's but then like half way through it say some internal problem....or something i wasted like x amount of blank DVD's too >.< but yeh like people said i just got a new one instead as i asked my comp friend if he could fix it and he said its most likely to be something wrong with the reader and better to get a new one instead

Upgrade your firmware and try different types of blank disks.

check the connections to the drive. sometimes a loose connections cause an intermittent error..i.e. lose connection thus bad disk. also trying cleaning the disk...I wouldn't spend too much effort to fix it also cause it cheap these days

maybe even run a diagnostic on it
