The region experienced a 4.3-magnitude earthquake this afternoon that originated in west Quebec, according to Earthquakes Canada. The agency says the earth moved near Lachute, Que., just north of Hawkesbury, Ont., at 1:36 p.m. Wednesday. The tremor was felt from Montreal to Ottawa. Earthquakes Canada originally pegged it as a 4.7-magnitude earthquake. A spokesperson says the quake was minor and they don't anticipate much damage. Viewers from across Ottawa, Gatineau, Cornwall, North Glengarry, Alexandria and Saint-Isidore, Que. have called CTV Ottawa to say they felt the earth shake. Many say the small earthquake lasted a few seconds and could be compared to what it feels like when a large truck passes by. Some say photos on the walls rattled, but so far no damage has been reported. Last summer, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake rattled the region. The epicentre of that quake was in Val-des-Bois, Que., about 54 kilometres northeast of Ottawa. However, the worst damage was experienced in Gracefield, Que.
