RTHK handed out another portion of awards yesterday for the 30th Top Ten Chinese Gold Song awards (十大中文金曲). The remaining awards will be presented at a gala presentation at the Hong Kong Coliseum on 19 January.

Among the singers attending the awards today were Eason Chan (陳奕迅), Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅), Twins, Hacken Lee (李克勤), Hins Cheung (張敬軒), Justin Lo (側田), Eric Suen (孫耀威), Leo Ku (古巨基) and Joey Yung (容祖兒). They were joined by nominees for the newcomer awards such as Jason Chan (陳柏宇), Pakho Chau (周柏豪), Ken Hung (洪卓立), Elanne Kong (江若琳) and Sherman Chung (鍾舒漫).

Although Janice Vidal (衛蘭) was also named as one of the top ten singers, she was not present at the event. Producer Chow Kwok Fung (周國豐) explained that she was unwell. After her recent declaration that she would not be attending the RTHK event, Denise Ho (何韻詩) kept to her word.

At the event, Eason was presented with one of the top ten gold song awards and also the "Country's Best Chinese Song Award". His scorecard tally stands at 16 awards for the year so far. Joey was presented with a top ten gold song award and also the "Country's Best Singer Award", which took her award count for 2007 to 13.

Stephy Tang (鄧麗欣)'s highly acclaimed song "Electric Light Bulb" <電燈膽> finally achieved the recognition it deserved and took a top ten gold song award. She was so pleased when this was announced that she became quite emotional as she pledged to keep on working hard.

After a very successful comeback, Eric also came away with a top ten gold song award.

As the awards season heads into the final straight, it seems that Eason and Joey are moving away from the pack with the Media Grand Prize [for the artiste with the greatest number of individual awards] squarely in their sights. Joey said modestly that Eason stood a much better chance of winning and she would be just as happy whoever won. When it was mentioned that she has all the best female singer awards so far, she said that she agrees with Miriam that no-one will complain about having too many awards and if she does take the top female award for all four stations, she would be on an extreme high and would take all her colleagues for a meal.
