Like their onscreen counterparts, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) are protective of their brotherly bond. Gaining popularity after starring in 2013′s Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, both see an increase in job offers and new opportunities to rise within TVB. Although the two shared equally important roles in the drama, it seems that Edwin has become sponsors’ favorite. Earlier reports suggest that Ruco may be harboring jealousy over Edwin’s numerous money-making gigs.

Although their appeal may be drastically different, Ruco and Edwin share many things in common, particularly in their career progression. Both dabbled in singing early on, though that path was cut short; Ruco was dropped from his label after releasing just a few singles, while Edwin was “exiled” from the local music industry after the media accused him of mocking his losing opponents at an awards after party. Ruco later joined ATV, and Edwin kept a low-profile while taking acting jobs in Mainland China.

In 2008, both returned to TVB and were assigned supporting roles. With a lack of young, talented first-line actors, Ruco quickly attracted TVB’s attention and was given successive leading roles in many major productions. Edwin also got his first taste of leading status in Brother’s Keeper. Although his career grooming is less aggressive, Edwin’s lovable character in the series won him many event appearances and endorsement contracts. He also became the face of the marketing campaign for Koi Kei Bakery, the major sponsor and story inspiration behind Brother’s Keeper.

While Edwin is busy padding his wallet, Ruco spends most of his time at the studio shooting for his many upcoming series. Since the two share the same manager, some alleged that Ruco is unhappy that he is missing out on these money-making engagements.

Ruco and Edwin seem to be on good terms however at a promotional shoot on March 12. Edwin denied the speculation and assured that they are making money together. “It’s not true. Our relationship actually became stronger over time. We just performed together at Genting, and we will continue to make appearances together.”

Ruco also assures that they maintain a close friendship. “Whether we receive a job offer or not depends on the clients. Edwin and I have known each other since primary school; we’re linked by fate. These gossips will not affect our friendship.”
