With four nominations at this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards, Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) hopes to become a winner and has his sights set on the Best Supporting Actor title.

Despite getting his start in music, Edwin is better known for his efforts on the TV screen and has made steady progress at TVB since joining in 2008. He first received wide recognition as Ah Yap in 2012′s Daddy Good Deeds <當旺爸爸>, and continued to earn acclaim as villain Ling Tim-Sau in The Confidant <大太監>. This year, Edwin further challenged himself with major roles in A Great Way to Care II <仁心解碼II> and Bullet Brain <神探高倫布>, and quickly achieved leading status in Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>.

It is obvious that TVB has plans to groom Edwin into its next first-line star. In addition to major screen time, the company has also asked Edwin to sing theme songs for his dramas, perhaps to remind viewers of his multiple talents. In the 2014 TVB calendar, Edwin shares the spotlight with TV King and Queen Moses Chan (陳豪) and Tavia Yeung (楊怡), and proudly takes the center spot next to Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲), showing his favored status.

Nabbing his very first nomination for TV King, Edwin is humble about his chances as he is facing such strong competition this year. He is instead crossing his fingers for the Best Supporting Actor title, nominated for his role as buck-toothed psychiatrist Jackson Leung in A Great Way to Care II. Although this battle is less fierce, Edwin must still contend with many veteran artists, including Ram Chiang (蔣志光), Elliot Ngok (岳華), Lau Kong (劉江), and Benz Hui (許紹雄). In addition to these two awards, Edwin is also on the ballot for My Favorite Male Character and Most Improved Male Artiste.

To pull for votes, Edwin has purchased peanut candies from Brother’s Keeper‘s main sponsor Koi Kei and passed them out to fellow artists at TVB’s recent year-end feast. He admits that the awards hype has given him hope, and plans to celebrate regardless of the results. “My friends have already made reservations to help me celebrate. They have definitely made me feel extremely confident! If I don’t win even with four nominations, I hope they will console me by picking up my tab at the parties!”
