Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) and TVB Entertainment News anchor, Gigi Ho (何傲芝), have been rumored to be dating for the past three years. The couple was photographed shopping together on various occasions, and on October 5, Gigi was seen with Edwin, who attracted media attention after his car lightly collided with a public light bus. The car accident indirectly exposed their underground relationship to the public, but despite the exposure, the pair continued to deny their relationship.

An insider spilled to Sudden Weekly that Edwin and Gigi had indeed been dating for quite some time already, but the pair decided to not take their relationship public in order to protect Edwin’s rising career. However, it has been recently reported that Edwin decided to break up with Gigi so he can place all of his efforts toward his career, and be in full preparation mode to win the Most Improved Male Artiste award.

    Gigi is Too Clingy?

According to the insider, Edwin and Gigi met at the wedding of their mutual friend, Heidi Chu (朱凱婷) two years ago. Gigi was immediately attracted to Edwin. She initiated a conversation with him and managed to get his phone number that same night.

The insider revealed, “Gigi was very good at coming up with excuses to help Edwin fix his phone. They started to meet frequently, and they grew closer. But not a lot of Edwin’s friends like her. They think she is too clingy and overprotective of Edwin. Afterwards, Edwin began accepting more and more job offers, and cast in large roles in dramas. He also travels to mainland China a lot for stage performances, and it has been really hard for him to find the time to spend with Gigi. I used to always see Gigi with Edwin, but recently, I have only seen Edwin alone. Gigi is nowhere in sight.”

TVB Executives Break Up the Relationship

Edwin joined TVB in 2008. Due to his hardworking attitude and perseverance, Edwin quickly became a favorite among TVB executives. After his relationship with Gigi was exposed, TVB executives reportedly forced Edwin to break up with Gigi for the sake of his career.

The insider claimed, “There are very few siu sangs at TVB nowadays. After Raymond Lam (林峯), Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), and Moses Chan (陳豪), Edwin has the best qualifications to be the next big thing. TVB executives have been paving the road for Edwin to win Most Improved. Catherine Tsang (曾勵珍) gave him opportunities to sing theme songs. Virginia Lok (樂易玲) takes very good care of him, and always praises him to others about how hardworking he is. Edwin has been doing great this year. He has a portrayed a variety of different characters and his resume is very diversified.”

Indeed, Edwin has proved his ability of being able to tackle a variety of different roles this year. In Daddy Good Deeds <當旺爸爸>, Edwin portrayed the simple-minded but extremely talented “Ah Yap.” In Gloves Come Off <拳王>, Edwin portrayed the depressive “Edward.” In The Last Steep Ascent <天梯>, he was the drama’s main villain, “Ho Sai Ho.” In the soon-to-broadcast anniversary drama The Confidant <大太監>, Edwin will portray the young Eunuch Ling, an anti-hero.

Edwin’s schedule is packed until next June. The actor is currently filming Big Wheel <巨輪>, starring alongside Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣). Next February, Edwin will begin preparing for Rosy Business 3 <巾幗梟雄之諜血雌雄> with Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Myolie Wu (蕭正楠), which is one of the most highly anticipated dramas of 2013. Edwin is currently locked on to record the theme song of Detective Columbo <神探哥倫布> as well.

Asked about his feelings towards winning Most Improved, Edwin said, “I am keeping an ordinary mind. My mom and the fans that have been supporting me for the past 10 years are probably more nervous than I am!” When speaking about Catherine Tsang and Virginia Lok’s full support for Edwin to win the award, Edwin humbly said, “I am really thankful to them! Catherine Jeh has given me a lot of opportunities. Being a favorite of hers is better than winning any award. Four years ago, it was Miss Lok who asked me to sign with TVB. She knows that I am the breadwinner of the family, so she gave me a really good offer.”

    Edwin: “Career Comes First”

Edwin explained, “I always felt that my career should come first. I think that as a man, we should have a stable career if we want to have a sense of security. When I was in Beijing, I had a girlfriend, but I did not have a stable career. I did not like that feeling.”

Asked if Edwin had already broken up with Gigi, Edwin said, “We are only good friends. She helps me a lot, and we have things to talk about.”
