I am told to write a comparative study of two films Romeo and Juliet, one directed by Zeferelli and one by Luhrmanna. The topic i have to argue is that "despite the differences between different director's adaptations of romeo and Juliet all director's suggest that the tale is essentially about young, romantic love. Do you agree?"

the problem is that I dont know if it is all about young, romantic love. It can be interpreted as a general young ppl's love, or "young" as in not so deep love.
So is both films all about young, romantic love? i was thinking can it be also the impetuous decisions of young people, or the stupidity of their sudden decisions of their marriage? OR can it be about the quarrel between the two families or something else?

    I have discuss:
the differences and similarity of the two films
    key scenes

if i discuss that it is all about young, romantic love, what key scenes and film elements do i use to support the argument?
if i discuss that it is NOT about young, romantic love, what key scences and film elements do i use to support the argument?

P.S: i was told that film elements include: themes, plot, characterisation, setting, language, genre, costuming, camera shots, music, lighting and symbolism
    -huh?

need help!!! this is really important to me!!!-cry2
i will be gratefull for ur help!
    thank you -hug

Well, there's great differences between Baz's version to that of Zeffirelli.. The targeted audiences/the film techniques used are so different... I haven't seem Zeffirelli's in full so I can't exactly comment on the love bits and stuff.

But for Baz, I found that he focuses on the love bewetween R and J - The use of recurring symbolism of water is one thing that comes to mind. Camera shots is probably what baz uses a lot. Especially in the intro, you see so many different types of shots (as an example of where Baz uses camera shots/angles to his advantage) Language.. well, he still uses Shakespeare's language; Which makes it does seem a bit wird.

Music: Fits with the type of scene on screen: Especially in the scene where (I think) Mercutio is killed? The lightning, storm clouds and other music work well in creating the effect of death and stuff.

Meh, it's been quite a while since I did a study of Baz's work.

thanks, i agreed with the water bit, where the fish tank is. But i dont get why i like it.i know that the music in that scene was really romantic, but what's does the water symbolise or represent? what's the effects of the blue water?

Well, I took water as a symbol of hope and life. There's the fish tank bit, and then later the bit in the pool. Blue.. well .. water is blue, so I don't think there's an effect there.
