I am a newbie in digital SLR camera and i found the latest model from Canon is quite compelling because of the following features:
    - 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor
    - Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System
    - 3.5 frames per second
    - 3.0” LCD with Live View shooting
    - 9-point wide-area AF system with f/2.8 cross-type centre point
    - Picture Style image processing parameters
    - DIGIC III image processor
    - Digital Photo Professional RAW processing software1
    - Compact and Lightweight body
    - Fully compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites

Anyone who have purchase this D-SLR and provide your pro view about this gadget?

You really can't go wrong with either Nikon or Canon. I bought the 400D in December and I absolutely love it. I've read that Canons are superior to Nikon when it comes to Digital SLR but Nikon beats Canon in the film department.

    The 400D will cost roughly $616: http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNDRXTI1855S

If that's a bit much, the 350D is also a very good pick at $646: http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNDRXT1855S

The first thing you should buy after you get the camera is a tripod. Don't skimp on a cheap 20 dollar one, you'll get fusturated by it and never use it again.

They now have offer with around USD988 that comes with Canon EOS 450D body plus 18-55mm Image Stabilizer lense. IS that a good deal? BTW, what's your opinion on Live View mode for a D-SLR camera? Is this feature worth the additional price from what EOS Canon 400D offer with an upgraded DIGIC chip as well?

totally tru... def need a GOOD tripod... crappy ones are useless... lolz
but b4 u buy tripod, buy UV filter to protect the lens =)

i vote for nikon (only cos i have a nikon hahaha)
nikon, consider the d40 or d40x (not sure if they're getting phased out soon... as d60 is out)

i'm not sure how much it is... but i know that specific lens is the normal lens that canon kits with their entry level DSLRs... so take that into consideration, ur not getting nething special... just look up the seperate prices and make ur own judgement...

D40x and D40 are dirt cheap now since its EOL, plus this or D60 is the ideal entry level DSLR. I'm using a D40x at the moment and still learning. I recommend u check the photographers forum for expert opinions, there are plenty out there. Either way Canon or Nikon is the way to go.

    I vote nikon aswell.

    Hello,

I got a D60 with the VR kit, in the uk they are offering cashback deal, for a beginner is it best to get what you feel comfortable paying. I went with Nikon because all of my mates had them and you can exchange/borrow lens easier :D

    D60 is 10MP and 18-55 VR lens for £430

I have the Canon Rebel XT. A low end DSLR with EF-S 18-55mm nothing fancy, really. considering upgrading to something with more zoom.Oh, I love my Canon. Light, fast, and nimble.
I've tried my friend's Nikon D80. One awesome piece of machinery. Maybe because of his superb lens. (AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f3.5-5.6) I've been using Canon for the past 7 years so the switch to Nikon was hard. Many features on the XT are not on the D80, or maybe I haven't got to used them all yet.

If you have chosen for Canon in the past it is very difficult to change.
Since you get use to the controles and you have lenses of that manufacturer.
Changing will be costing you lots of money.

I think I go for the Nikon D300, since this is better than the Canon 40D.
    Have the advantage that I don't have a D-SLR yet ;)

il probably be buying a digital SLR in the coming months in prep for my next trip to china.... im not sure if il be going canon or Nikon... iv heard that olympus and sony also have pretty solid DSLRs.

olympus cameras are very well priced and i dont want to spend more than 650 dollars on a camera. we'll see what i end up with.
