Have you ever gave/donated anything to charity before? What about giving $ to a homeless or poor person? I've donated to Red Cross during the tsunami. As for the homeless, I only give money to those who seem too old or weak to work. Also, has anyone ever donated blood? How much does it hurt? I'm thinking of donating, but I heard the needles they use aren't very clean. -unsure
i've always helped out different charities either by cash donations or providing volunteer work. I've given to people at the train stations but now i have learnt a lesson NOT to. I once gave a couple dollars to this person who seemed genuine in needing a bit more for his fare. next thing i knew i was on the train and he was leaving the station. (i know it aint much but its the principle that counts) Another story is the disabled people in wheelchairs (usually very elderly ones).. they get help from the government with their pensions yet they will still beg for tax free funds at the stations. up and down the platform. & they even bump into you (as if by accident) if you dont give them money. But i have never donated blood. i hate needles.
i donated to charities before when i won prize money for this badminton competition i donate some of my winnin to charity and so time i donate old clothes to this charity shop which helps out homeless ppl
Yep. It's great being able to help others. I donate money to various charities, like the American Lung Association, American Red Cross, International Relief Teams, etc. In addition to that, I'm also a regular blood donor for Red Cross, and am on the national database for bone marrow donors as well. If you are donating blood with the Red Cross, you will see that with each donor, they get a new needle that is individually wrapped up. So obviously, the needles are clean since they haven't been opened & are still new & sterile. Whether or not it hurts really depends on who the technician is. Most of the times that I've gone to donate blood, it didn't hurt at all, & I have a really low tolerance for pain. You feel the pinch when they first put in the needle, but they do it very well most of the time, and the tip of the needle is EXTREMELY small. Only once did it really hurt after I'd donated. Because I have very small veins, it usually takes a while for the bag to fill up, and sometimes, the technicians will think that they didn't put the needle in the right spot, so they will move it around. They almost severed a nerve once. But most of the times, I feel totally fine after I donate blood, and I'm a pretty small girl (weight wise). There's nothing to be afraid of, because when they take your blood, you do not get to see the needle and the bag of blood since you are lying down and they put the bag below where you are lying. Just remember to drink lots of water before and after you donate, and you will be fine. Also, do know that you need to be at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds in order to be able to donate. The reason for this is that your body has about 6 quarts of blood, so they only want to take about 1 pint from you when you donate. After donating, you replace these red blood cells within 3 to 4 weeks. It takes 8 weeks to restore the iron lost after donating. As long as your heart doesn't stop pumping, you will always have enough blood in your body. I just donated blood earlier this week & that was the gallon mark. Oh, and I rarely give money to panhandlers, especially the ones in chinatown. There's this old woman who panhandles in chinatown in the city where I live. Every morning, I'd see her going to her spot, but her son drops her off in a mercedes s class!
I've personaly colelcted donations for charity but for my ownself, i did donated a few extra bucks i have at that time
I'm unable to donate blood as I faint at the slightest sight of my own blood if drawn by someone else. I send money to charities esp. for radio ministries by some Christian groups.
it is really nice to help sumbody else...even u just work for them... i've donate my car..and when i moved....sumtime i have a lots of stuff i dunt need it anymore...i do give away....i've send the money for protection kids program .. well....its just been so nice helping sum1 else.... ivy
i sometimes give to those street charities and would love to give more but the thing is sometimes i'm not even sure they'll go to where they're supposed to. i hate people who take advantage of other people's kindness..
I am a child sponsor with World Vision and donated for the Tsunami relief too. Also donated to Red Cross. I don't donate blood. I don't have enough for myself ! When donating, be aware of who you are giving too..some are just frauds ! There is this guy that keeps telling ppl his car broke down and he needs a couple of dollars to call a tow truck etc but he is there practically every other week ! Those are con men that you should avoid if you ever come across one !. Tell them to call the police for help.
My country (Malaysia) suffered the TSUNAMI. Well at least Indonesia and Thailand suffered the most. My parent did donate stuff, old clothes + money for foods and beverage.
