Failed AP Test

So I'm really upset right now, crying even. I'm pretty sure at least a few people on PA have taken an AP (advanced placement) exam. So in sophomore year, I took AP European History, and I just got my test score back. I got ... a 1. And to anyone that doesn't know, that isn't good, at all. It's horrible. It's the worst grade you can get, Basically, I failed. So I just got my test score back today, and I didn't expect a very good score. After taking the test, I was discussing it with my friends. They were all saying it was easier than they expected and I thought it was harder ... so I guess that foreshadowed my bad score. I mean, I expected a bad score, but maybe a 2? That would've been better, but I got a 1. And I probably didn't even deserve a 1, it's just that they can't give a lower score than that. I mean, it just makes me feel so stupid. I know I'm not the only person who has ever failed an AP exam, but I feel like I am. I just have this feeling that all of my friends that also took the exam passed. And then when the school year starts, everyone will be like, "I got a 4, what did you get?" and I will have no idea what to say because I'll be so embarassed that I got a 1. And I know some people that are pretty .. stuck up? I don't really know if that's really how to describe them, but I mean they look down on people who aren't "as good as them". They've never done it to me before, but I know that they do it to people they don't think are as smart as them. Now I feel that they'll do that to me. I mean when I took the envelope from the mailbox, I expected bad, but not THIS bad. But I guess I can't really expect much because I thought the test was so hard. It's just that, I KNOW this material, I got A's in the class. So I don't understand how I could completely fail this exam. I just e-mailed my AP European teacher and told him, and I feel like I've disappointed, like I've failed him. He was such a great teacher, and he retired this year. So how do I show that I learned so much from him? I failed the test. I mean, it just makes me feel so horrible! My sister said I am really upset probably because I've never failed anything before. Not bragging, so please don't think that! It's just what my sister said. And I feel like maybe that's true. She said she's failed a number of times, so she's kind of just numb now. I mean, but it's just a big thing to me. I'm planning to take the exam next year again, along with two other AP exams (US History&Physics), which I'm really scared of now, considering I got a 1 this time. Hopefully I'll get better next year :(

Things like this happen, maybe you were too stressed before the exam? Hopefully you will feel better and dont let this get you down. Just remember that there would be better times and that you should look forward to them. Keep up the hard work and it will eventually pay off. ;)

As for your friends, dont worry about it now, they might not even be looking down at you. And if they do, just ignore them. Heres a little -hug.

i remember sophmore year at my high school too everybody got a one on the ap history tests lol, no one cared though, but i failed an ap test (AP Biology) and i didn't give a damn about it anyways lol, i found out the people who got a 3 in high school thought they got college credit but you need at least a 4 where i go lol. Don't care about what others think about you lol, if you care so much just lie though lol, i usually tell them straight up and we get a laugh out of it and it's over.

I always thought the true objective of an AP class was to get the 1.2 multiplier. Either way, dont let it discourage you. Think of it as an incentive for next year to do better

^ yea like if you get a d it counts as a c on your transcript and stuff like that but the AP test is for the college credit and if you did bad in the class or something, it's probably used as a bump for the grade or something like that.

AP european history sounds tough. They probably have those impossible little details which are completely useless. I remember I took AP psych 12, AP chem 12, and AP bio 12 and I got either 3s or 4s, never the top score.

I took IB (International Baccalaureate) not AP... supposed to be more difficult, and it was quite a workload. IMO its all useless once you get to university though, even though you might know more, it doesnt matter if you arent good with test writing and studying.

I think of myself as more educated and cultured due to my experience in IB, but when it comes down to writing tests in university its all about how much you study and how much effort you put in. Don't worry too much about those advanced placement things, if you work hard, you will end up in the same place as everyone else anyways.

PS.. a 1 on any test is kind of strange... if you knew the subject alright, i dont see how getting such a low mark is even possible. perhaps the problem is in how well you can communicate yourself with your writing, or the format you wrote your test answers in... these kind of seemingly 'trivial' things can make a huge difference on an exam. I would suggest talking 1 on 1 with your teacher or with a student you know that did very well on the test and see if you can get some pointers to help you realize what u are doing wrong.

    To xmichelly,
I don't think you will be that much happier even if you got a 2 or a 3. You will always want something better. Getting a 1 or 2 makes no difference since most universities require a 4 in order to be eligible to skip the 1st yr course.

IB is good if one is planning to study in universities outside of N.A.. AP is good if one plans to continue studying in N.A.

they're honestly both the same degree of difficulty. IB students tend to look down on the AP program, and vice versa. the difference is IB does it in terms of a program, whereas AP prepares you for do-or-die. on the lines of what newaznsensation said, the MOST you get out of a high AP or IB grade is getting free credits so you don't have to do certain courses. for me, for example, I didn't have to take first year chem or physics.

but yeah, don't get too down on the exam. those AP evaluators are probably a bunch of bastards trying to get revenge on how previous AP evaluators graded them back in their day.

it's okay. I got a 3 in ap euro and still didn't receive the credit in college so it doesn't matter. Just take the class over in college and you would feel like a genius since you know almost everything already. That's what happened to me; I got a 2 in ap bio and took the class over and got an A-. I like American history better...a lot easier and less kings and wars and stuff.

Awww its okay. AP European History is hard... and plus ur only a junior this year so you still have some time to fix everything. haha i took my AP statistics exam and i havent gotten my score back. I probably failed it though so you're not the only thats in this. I say dont think about too much because that would just make it worse. Move on from it and then do better the next time you take it. Good luck to you though!!

Hey, umm you're talking about the regents? Don't feel bad because my score was way worse even though i didn't take the AP. i took the regular regent and, i got a 65 T.T. So if, i take the AP version i would get a 0 for sure if, there is one. One thing is for sure if that, if you know that gave it your best then, just accept the it the results you get from it.

To take AP courses and get A's in them is a feat in itself. Besides, AP courses only help in terms of college credits. Seeing as how hardworking you are, you'll do fine when you get in college. I've taken a few AP courses in high school and it's crazy how much material is covered.... and I failed every single one of them. I've always wondered how AP students got any sleep at all. Plus, this is only one test out of many future ones. Be proud of how hardworking you are and how well you've done so far.

i wasnt really talking warmly about it... i just said im more educated and cultured due to it. the amount of work involved in IB was ridiculous, presentations and shit absolutely killed my weekends and evenings for 3 years, hahahahaha.

the exams were kinda amusing though...

History, i chose a topic we didnt even spend any time on and did my Essay on Mao Tse Tung, when the rest of the class did theirs on the Cuban Missile crisis lol. i still got a 5 in that, even though all i knew about mao was stuff i had read on my own time.

and managed a 6 in english and a 4 in french... hahaha but in Bio i gave up completely cuz it was my last exam and i just wanted to go home and i only got a 3, pretty sad.
