Fala Chen Complains Lack of Promotion for Album

Fala Chen’s (陳法拉) debut album, Beautiful Life <美麗人生>, was released last week under Rising Stars Music. Although Fala has finally realized her music dreams, Beautiful Life may be her only and final album.

Recent reports are claiming that Fala was unsatisfied with the lack of promotion for her album and thus expressed her discontentment to Rising Star CEO, Herman Ho (何哲圖). Allegedly, Herman was disappointed with Fala’s demanding attitude, and decided to cut off all arranged promotions for her album.

Fala Demands Too Much?

An insider revealed, “Fala tends to stick to her own position. For example, Herman likes it when his artists ‘kiss up’ to him and attend his dinner parties, but Fala never went to dinner with him. That’s why when Fala told Herman that she wanted to sing other songs besides Karaoke-friendly songs, Herman didn’t give her any, and purposely chose re-written Mandarin songs for her to sing. Fala also called Herman superstitious by publicly pointing out that he only wears black and white.”

From the release of her first two plugs, One Half (一半) and Redemption (贖罪), in early June, to the release of her full-length album last week, Fala only gave one live performance on TVB music program, Jade Solid Gold <勁歌金曲>. Not one of her singles made it into the music charts, including TVB’s own JSG Billboard Charts.

Another insider disclosed that Fala complained to Herman about the lack of promotion for her album, and even told him that he had bad taste in music because none of her songs were doing well in the charts! This angered Herman, who decided to halt all of Fala’s future album promotions. Fala then had no choice but to promote the album herself through Weibo and other online social media websites.

TVB Artists Fail at Maintaining Music Careers

Many TVB artists had released albums in the past. With the exception of Raymond Lam(林峯), none of their careers reached success.

Ron Ng (吳卓羲): Best known for the song, Don’t Blame Her (別怪她), Ron signed with BMA Music in 2005 and released an extended play, The Fast Pass, in December 2005. A month later, Ron’s full-length album, The Fast Forward, was released. The album sold well, but Ron never renewed his contract with BMA.

Bosco Wong (黃宗澤): In 2008, Bosco Wong signed under East Asia Music, and released two extended plays, In Love with Bosco in December 2008, and Bravo in June 2010. After the lukewarm responses of Bravo, Bosco ended his contract with East Asia Music in 2010.

Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍): When Cho Lam performed as a guest star for a singing contest hosted by EEG, he caught the attention of EEG executive Ng Yu (吳雨), who later signed him under their label. Cho Lam released his first album, Cho Lam Everywhere <處處祖藍>, in November 2008. His second album, All About Loving You, was released three years later, but sales were average.

Kate Tsui (徐子珊): In 2009, Kate joined Vigour Entertainment and released her first album, Kiss Me Kate, in September 2009. Although Kate won “Best New Singer” that year, Vigour Entertainment went bankrupt, and Kate had to forgo her music career.
