Fala Chen’s (陳法拉) debut music album, Beautiful Life <美麗人生>, will be released on July 31, 2012 under Stars Shine International’s sister label, Rising Star Music. The first two plugs of the album, One Half <一半> and Atonement <贖罪>, were released last month. Fala grew up in a musical environment, and has been singing in choirs and playing the piano since a young age. Six years ago, Fala took vocal lessons from a famous vocal trainer, Christine Samson, who inspired her to pursue her dreams in singing. Fala said, “I really like to sing! I have always wanted to be a singer! I was part of a choir in high school and college. I always went out to perform, and enjoyed the experience very much! Fala’s album, Beautiful Life consists of 10 singles, one of which was produced by famous TVB music producer, Tang Chi Wai (鄧智偉), who has helmed many of TVB’s recent musical hits. Fala also invited her friend, Queenie Chan (陳莉敏), to write the lyrics for one of her Mandarin songs. Although Beautiful Life will be Fala’s first music album release, she has had previous professional recording experiences before. In 2005, Fala stepped into a recording studio for the first time to film a commercial song for TVB. She also sang the theme songs for TVB dramas, The Stew of Life <有營煮婦>, Links to Temptation <誘情轉駁>, and Queens of Hearts and Diamonds <東西宮略>. Fala Denies Special Treatment For the past few months, Fala was claimed to have been receiving special treatment by the Stars Shine International production crew and marketing staff due to her relationship with the label’s major shareholder, Sit Sai Hang (薛世恒), who is Fala’s longtime boyfriend. Fala said, “I have publicly denied those claims many times, but the press still likes to exaggerate them.” Fala revealed that it took her almost two years for her music dreams to be realized. She explained, “The press has made a big mistake by calling me ‘the boss’ wife.’ When I signed with Stars Shine, it was almost two years ago. I have known Herman Ho (何哲圖, CEO of Stars Shine) for some time now. Ms. Lok (Virginia Lok 樂易玲) also heard about his new company. TVB had tried to find a record label for me, so they recommended me to Herman for an audition. I signed with Stars Shine about a month before the new company was established. If I was really the boss’ wife, why would it take me two years to release an album? I’ve explained this many times before, but everyone still likes to focus on that title.” Fala Learns From JSG Mistake Fala debuted her first live performance of One Half on Jade Solid Gold (JSG) earlier in June 2012. She performed nervously and sang off-key, garnering much harsh criticism from critics and netizens. Fala admitted that she was disappointed with her own performance, but she did not feel too saddened by the criticism. Fala said, “I usually have no problem with singing live. During the rehearsal, I also performed okay. But once the official recording began, the studio was filled with reporters. The studio was originally quiet, but now I could hear many cameras snapping and flashing lights, and I got distracted. I thought I was fine, but when my voice was heard through the microphone, I realized that I was actually shaking.” “I have learned a valuable lesson at JSG,” Fala continued. “I have learned that I must be 100 percent prepared before any performance. Therefore, I want to thank everyone for their constructive criticism. Your criticism has become my driving force! You think I can’t do it? I will prove to everyone that I can! Criticism brings upon improvement!” Fala Finds Cantonese Songs Difficult to Sing A native of Sichuan, China and born to Mandarin-speaking parents, Fala finds Cantonese songs extremely difficult and stressful to sing. “Cantonese songs are difficult to sing because enunciation is very important. The first two plugs of my album are love songs, but I actually like other genres more. I can be a little more rock-ish. I know some of my fans want to see me dance. I hope to take things slowly. Sometimes, I imagine how I will be if I was to sing Kate Tsui’s (徐子珊) Hit Me. Haha!” No Plans for Marriage Yet When asked if she had plans for marriage, Fala responded, “If that time comes, I will let everyone know. But marriage is also a marriage of two families. It involves the right time, the right place, and the right people. At the moment, I don’t think I have enough maturity to engage in a marriage, but I do really want to have children. I think I will be a good mother. I will be one hundred percent involved in taking care of my children.” Creds: ihktv
