"I've just spoken to Edison. When he heard about "his suicide" news, he just laughed," Chen's father, Chen Zemin, said.
When reporters asked if he had told Chen about his bankruptcy, he said, "Yes. He comforted me and cheered me on."
Movie "Sniper" that featured Chen, Ritchie Ren and Huang Xiaoming held its gala premiere in Hong Kong on Tuesday night. The movie production company did not step up on security, as Chen was absent. However, his friend Miriam Yeung showed up as VIP and said she will try to help the Chen family if Edison's father declares bankrupt.
"I hope Edison will learn to plan his life and transforms his concern for the family into strength and take good care of his family members," Yeung said.
The businessman, whose business failed, applied to declare bankrupt through his representing lawyer on Mar 25. The court hearing will take place on Apr 28.
According to Hong Kong law, a person bankrupt for the first time will be monitored for four years; if there are violations within this period, the bankruptcy period will be extended to eight years.
