Nearly a fifth of goods made and sold in China have been found to be sub-standard, Beijing has revealed. The worst problems were found in canned fruit, dried fish and fruit drinks, a food inspectors' report said. China has pledged to take action to improve its food and drug industry after a series of safety scares aroused domestic and global concern. The US has already banned or issued warnings over several goods from China, including seafood and toothpaste. A wide-range of products, from food and consumer goods to fertilisers and farm machinery, were tested in the first half of this year, China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in its report. Of the goods tested, 19.1% were found to be below standard. Many of the food products had been contaminated by toxins or bacteria, or failed to carry the required labelling information, the report said. The inspectors attempted to throw a positive light on the findings - saying that 80.9% of products had successfully passed the tests, and that quality was improving. The inspections did not cover exported products that have caused a number of scandals this year, particularly in the US. The problems first came to light after the deaths of dogs and cats in the US earlier in 2007. Melamine found in wheat gluten exports from China for use in pet food was blamed, and at least 100 pet food brands were recalled. Since then, the US Food and Agriculture department has also raised concerns about seafood products, toothpaste and the paint used in toy trains from China. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/6269318.stm
Thats what you get with a booming economy on steroids, anybody and everybody will do anything to turn up a profit. The government won't do too much about it either, they can make money elsewhere not just the US. Its just a vicious cycle but hey, the United States and Britain went through the same thing when they hit their "industrial revolution". Let hope that things get better
eh... paint used in toy trains? they still make toy trains? lol.... if it was the paint used in making lil anime figurines, then yea that'd be a major problem... but... toy trains?
i've always tried to avoid china made goods if i can but we can get it easily in malaysia...no offense to them but i really think that their goods are quantity-based and not quality-based...
i used to hate made in china goods, now still do because their quality really sucks. if they can improve the quality up to 100%, i don't mind paying top dollars for it. i rather go for quality goods that last.
the china manufacturing industry is accelerating faster that the people itself, therefore the people and the culture can't catch up. So you are left with western organisations expecting perfect made cheap products in china, while the chinese workforce makes the goods in the same way as they did 10 years ago with all the coruption, cheap labour, lack of health and safety for people, lack of employee welfare and no quality control.
lol have to agree china is all labor and quick money nothing they make can really last you long unless its a really big company
man ... the China government needs to step up. Just when you have an open market and your economy is blooming ... do you really want the bad reputation to bring your economy down? they have a good opportunity to improve their economy tremendously right now; if they don't do something about it ... there's always other countries like Vietnam. although, i'm not sure if Vietnam's quality is any better. sigh .. i wld rather spend more to buy SAFE, QUALITY goods than something cheap that will kill me.
i have also always been a bit wary now of 'made in china' products...i hope the gov't changes its policies sooner than later
