For the Cantonese members...

I'm curious to find out; of the Cantonese members on this board, where were your parents raised?

I know some are from HK, some are from Canton, others born in Canton but emigrated to HK at a young age, etc...

Both born and bred in HK ... I was also born in HK too but emigrated to the UK since I was 2 years old -cool

 

Born & raised in Hong Kong of course.

But at the moment I am just studying in the UK.

isn't canton the same as Guangzhou?

 

I heard it was hard to get visas to leave Canton back then; The open door policy had only been in effect since 1978 I think ... That's pretty lucky for them. So I assume you were born here then...

Canton is the southern most province of China, where the majority of people speak Cantonese. Guang Chow (or Guangzhou for mandarin pronunciation) is the capital city of Canton province.

My parents were born and raised in Hong Kong, except they moved to the US about 25 years ago.

 

My mom is from China, now we raised at Malaysia.
