Last September, Francis Ng‘s (吳鎮宇) son, Feynman, sustained an injury while preparing for the New Zealand segment of Where Are We Going, Dad? <爸爸去哪兒>. Feynman received four stitches on the corner of his eye and was recently told by his physician that the scar would be life-long.

Afterward, Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) announced that he and Feynman decided to withdraw from the second season of Where Are We Going, Dad?.

    Francis Angry Over Insurance Claims

While promoting for his new film last week, Francis expressed his anger at the show’s staff for mishandling the insurance claims. “Hunan TV is bullying a 6-year-old boy. I have not received any documentation about the insurance claims from them. We’ve been trying to contact them about it but no one would come forth. Communication was done poorly.” Francis was so angry that he threw down his microphone when speaking about the issue in an interview.

Appearing at an event in Hong Kong a day later, Francis revealed that he would be returning China to meet with his lawyer. Although he was initially angry at Hunan TV, he clarified that there is no hostility between the two parties. “I just want this to be over with,” he said. “Hunan TV has not clarified about how we should claim the insurance. At least we should know which insurance company they purchased from.”

On May 21, Hunan TV clarified that the personal injury protection insurance was purchased for Francis and Feynman after they signed the contract for season 2 on May 8, 2014. Feynman fell and injured himself the day before the crew officially began their New Zealand shoot on September 2, 2014, and was immediately rushed to the hospital. The staff was by Feynman’s side throughout the duration of his operation. The staff also repeatedly asked Francis and Feynman if they wanted to stop the shoot, but they expressed their will to continue.

Hunan TV stressed that they have actually been in contact with the insurance company. The station urged Francis to turn in the medical documents of Feynman’s operation so they can claim the insurance as soon as possible.

The station ended its statement by expressing that the staff and crew have developed a deep relationship during the duration of the filming and thanked the cast and their families for supporting the show in the last two years. Hunan TV sends its regards to Francis and his family, and is looking forward to Feynman’s speedy recovery.

Francis thanked Hunan TV for its response, in which the station’s executives especially flew to Beijing to resolve the insurance claims matter with Francis. He also added that Feynman’s eyesight is acceptable right now, but his condition will need to be monitored in an ongoing basis.
