The annual Metro Radio Mandarin Music Awards Presentation comes around again and took place yesterday, giving out a total of 95 awards, defending its title of being the most 'long-winded' awards ceremony.

Last night, affectionately dubbed "The Diva of the Universe", G.E.M Tang who had been busy expanding her works in mainland china, especially came back to Hong Kong to attend the presentation and walked away with 5 awards becoming the night's big winner.

Also presented with awards was Super Junior M's Zhou Mi, Jiro Wang, Fred Cheng and Jinng Ng, whereas regular favourites Joey Yung, Twins and Kay Tse and others from EEG and Universal were nowhere to be seen, leaving to G.E.M to wow the stage.

The presentation opened up with 95 award categories and was filled with only 70% of attendees, despite the emptiness, loyal fans were very supportive of their singers and filled the atmosphere with much enthusiasm.

G.E.M was awarded with "Best Song of the Year", "Best World Stage", "World's most popular singer" and with her popular hit《多遠都要在一起》also helped take home " World's most popular song" and "Album of the Year" awards.

Having received this many amount of awards it was noticed that G.E.M did seem subdued that night and didn't say much.

Shino Lin Teary-eyed with Her Award

Taiwanese singer Shino Lin was thankful when she received the "Metro Mandarin Female Singer", alongside Kandy Lam of Sugar Club and Shila Amzah that had also received the award.

Shino also became a bit teary eyed as she expressed she really loves singing and was surprised that she has received an award after being an independent singer for so many years.

Zhou Mi Steals the Stage with His 'RED' Look

Super Junior M's Zhou Mi, Jiro Wang, Pakho Chau and Josie Ho each took home 3 awards. As soon as the popular Zhou Mi had come on to the stage, there was many screams and applause to welcome him from the audience.

    I know right?!

I'm going to her concert in November and whilst I enjoy her mando songs, I'm hoping to hear more of her canto hits

My friends who went to one of her concerts a few months back told me it was great and they had a good time, but most of her songs were in Mandarin which kinda disappointed them a bit but it was still fun.

You will have a blast either way, it's just odd a HK singer not singing more Cantonese songs...

Can't blame her. China market is where it's at after Japan. You see all these Kpop groups heading to China to promote. T-ARA isn't and will not regain popularity in Korea, meanwhile they're probably the Korean biggest group in China. Also you can't even compare HK and China market together cause they're so different.

I do hope she goes back to her roots.

I love the Mandarin songs too but she should mix it up and give some of her OG fans something too. It's true the market in China is huge and that's where she's making all that money but she can't forget about her roots too.

Look at the kpop groups. Even though they venture out to Japan or China, they always come back to Korea to promote sooner or later (within 2 years). SHINee, KARA, and T-ARA are good examples who are always promoting overseas but has comeback in Korea.

I LOVE GEM, BUT SHE LIKES MONEY MORE!

Like some said, cannot blame her

  11. As many have said in the past when accepting awards... "canto pop is not dead"...

Whilst there may be some truth to this, its dying a slow painful death. A Lot of artists start off in the canto pop scene but when they get popular they quickly start singing more and more mando songs because the China market is soooo huge~! Can't blame them for wanting money and a stage that's so much bigger, just wish the canto/HK music industry would bring out more talent, rather than have TVB further monopolise the entertainment industry and push out the 'tvb singers'
