One of the things that have always fascinated me about electronic gaming is the amount of background legwork that producers and developers put into their product, including full HD cinematic trailers and shorts to make it all the more compelling; thus worthy of interest and purchase. Unfortunately, these awesome shorts are generally open ended question marks without resolution. I know that that is probably the makers intent; to cause interest and purchase desire. However, the games frankly are never even close to the power and scope of the trailers. Cases in point: I just wish these game companies would make a full feature film instead of just the short. Sure it would likely cost them a lot to do this, but I think fans deserve it. And who knows, the general public may also eventually buy into the concept and such films may even cross over into the mainstream market and make money as full fledged movies. These things are wholly accepted in Japan, where full animation movies like Appleseed [2004] are well received and have been for more than a decade. I just wish there was more interest for this type of entertainment within the US, especially since CGI animation has improved so dramatically. Some of those trailers seem more real than real life.
pretty sure next gen consoles are going to have graphics looking like that.. so all that cg cinematic will just be integrated into the gameplay
I rarely play these games. The last game I've played: Mass Effect 3, the graphics still looks cheesy. The characters have no facial expressions.
a couple years ago they were aiming to have in game graphics comparable to the cgi movie final spirits within, i already think its pretty much there.. remember that trailer and expectations when they actually made kill zone 2 possible? unreal engine 4's looking pretty good too by next console or the one afterwards, there won't be anymore cgi videos but likely all in game graphics doing the scenes i remember a friend walking in and asking "what movie are you watching?" ralph! i don't know what games you have been playing but i've been blown away but some of these games by the quality of how cgi they look.
Allow me to clarify; yes, I know that in game graphics have improved, and I had lamented that games usually don't look as good as the trailer, but that wasn't my main point. Instead, I was driving at the possibility of game makers becoming movie makers, with using their game product as an idea vehicle. For example, Several year ago, War Hammer 40K made a full length movie (watch in its entirety on youtube): That is, it wasn't gameplay graphics (per se) that I'm interested in, but rather the idea and setting as created by the premise and setting of the game, to be used as source material for an awesome CGI movie, of the same quality as those trailers. Resident Evil; Degeneration also did this but their animation art wasn't nearly as beautiful to watch. What I'm saying is, that such movies could become another class of video entertainment that could be sold on the market like any other anime media. I'm just disappointed that there aren't more of them.
