GAME OF THRONES-LOVING LAWYER DEMANDS TRIAL BY COMBAT Staten Island attorney Richard Luthmann has requested the New York State Supreme Court allow him to settle a court case in a fight to the death. According to The Wrap, Luthmann, a self-proclaimed fan of the HBO series Game of Thrones, has been accused of aiding a client in fraud. As means to solve the dispute, he has requested to resolve the matter in a "Trial By Combat." The court filing states: "Defendant invokes the common law writ of right and demands his common law right to Trial By Combat as against plaintiffs and their counsel, whom plaintiff wishes to implead into the Trial By Combat by writ of right."................. Given the current scope and practice of modern jurisprudence, to claim such action as a proper defense seriously borders on contempt. If I were the jurist in this case, I would offer the defendant an opportunity to withdraw his demand or else be found in contempt and then assign him a legal aid lawyer to take over his case.
