Monday August 28, 2006 Hong Kong Tabloid, 'EasyFinder', has brought up a rage among all of Hong Kong from the incident of secretly filming artiste, Gillian Chung. Over three hundred artistes attended the denouncing congress yesterday, voicing out that they have to say "No." to the negative media. The victim, Gillian, had tried to keep herself calm during her speech, but she had ended up crying again. Jackie Chan angrily points out that 'EasyFinder is a disgrace to Hong Kong. Led by Jackie Chan, the Performing Artistes Guild will be handing a letter over to Chief Executive, Donald Tsang, to request of the protection for artistes. The number of complaints sent to 'Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority' has been recorded to be 2488 complaints. Being the first person to speak out during the congress, Gillian already had red eyes when she started to speak because she is so disturbed by the issue. She expressed that being an idol of many children, she feels that this incident has destructed the image that she's been builting for all these years, making her feel so lost that she doesn't know how to face up to all those children out there. She said, "I was at a children function after reporting the incident to the police; see so many children and parents there, I suddenly felt really embarassed. Even though they understand that it's not my fault, but I really don't know how to face up to them." Gillian describes this incident as a scandal, making a part of her life stained. She expressed, "The media often uses the reason of 'because the public wishes to see it' as a reason to print things such as these photos. Actually, no one has announced that they'd like to see stuff like this, but it's because they're publishing it that people are looking at it." Last Saturday, Gillian has filed a report to the high court as an accusation to 'EasyFinder', their editor-in-chief, Yuen Choi Yuk, and the printing agency, Paramount Printing Group Ltd. According to the papers of the high court, the accused party was in a hotel located in Malaysia and used illegal and inappropriate actions to secretly film the related photos; it is a violation of the common law's 'Breach Of Confidence'. The accused party has also printed the related photos on August 23rd's 'EasyFinder' and uploading it to their agency's official website without obtaining suing party's agreement. Gillian has requested for a mandatory order to be released by the court, forcing the accused person to return all negatives of the photos, the photos, video clips, floppy disks, and any other materials that contain items that relate to the case. A restraining order has also been requested to forbid the accused party to be printing any of the photos again and commands them to destruct any related files. Gillian has also asked the court to demand the accused party to hand over the profit that the tabloid has earned from that particular issue and a compensation. Jackie Chan also appeared to be very agitated during the congress. He points out that the usual gossip of tabloid is only criticized in Hong Kong itself, but this secretly filming incident of 'EasyFinder' has gotten to be international. He expressed, "This tabloid is a disgrace to Hong Kong!" He criticized that this tabloid's actions is just like peeping and will highly effect the next generation, making them think that secretly filming is common to occur. Jackie encourages that the parents of HK should be those who lead the rest in boycotting the tabloid. Jacky Cheung expressed, with the identity of a father, that children is the society's future. If such nonsense continues, then the society will be highly effected by the time the next generation comes around. He hopes that besides developing in the financial area, the government will be giving proper education to the children. Jacky pointed out, "Be late a day of teaching the kids; as the children grow up, then you'll have no way of going back to teach them what you should've earlier." The Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority has received 2488 complaints regarding 'EasyFinder'; the HK Press Council has also received close to one hundred complaints, including one from the victim, Gillian. The Press Council has sent out an order to 'EasyFinder' earlier, expecting for them to explain their actions with today as the deadline. The council will be expressing condemnation towards 'EasyFinder' during this week, for they have not made a single response. With the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority receiving 2488 complaints, they have graded 'EasyFinder' as Second Level of indecent material. The agency will have five days to revise the packaging and restrictions of the tabloid. Once it is official, the Licensing Authority will have the right to send out a subpoena to the tabloid agency. Many social groups are also against the actions of 'EasyFinder'. The Female Protection Group of Kowloon arranged actions at their own will by gathering up many other female protection groups and having a march of protest from Central to the government headquarters to see some government officials. The representative of the group expressed that they had been collecting signatures at the Tsim Sha Tsui pier; as of now, they have already collected over twenty thousand signatures and will be sending it over to the government within today. credits: various newspapers, asianfanatics.
