Only legal way to download music is by paying for the tracks which will contribute to the artist i.e. iTunes.

Any free downloads could mostly say is illegal

subjective, if your conscience is dead on the matter then "who cares.", for me i pay for my music, my conscience doesn't allow me to steal, if nothing was wrong it wouldn't be illegal. anyway, this thread is just to show a good site thats very cheap.

Not all free downloads are illegal

  9. Amazon is great to use. Because if you make other media purchases or album purchases, you get free mp3 credit or movie rental credit.

Yea, not all free downloads are legal, it is only legal when they give permission which is unlikely unless of course, you know the person and..

This isn't like the old days where you hear one good song in the entire album and regret it later. Now I can d/l albums and listen to it before buying those expensive albums.

I don't know that site, not sure if it's legit, I rather buy the albums if it's good than go there.

^ the site is legit, i checked it out before posting it here, and money does go to the artist just like itunes and amazon.

As for buying physical CD's... i really dont think so, the ONLY time i buy CD's is when its much cheaper than buying the MP3 album. for example i recenty bought 'Daft Punk - Discovery', it would have cost me around £8 to buy the MP3 album off Amazon, but on the same site i found a used CD for £1.25... so i got the CD in that case.

On top of that i only look at a CD once, rip the music off the CD then it never sees the light of day ever again, Im not sure if there is misconception that buying a CD = more support for Artist than a Digital Download. i wonder what causes people to come to that conclusion, or maybe paying extra money for a CD in store to cover electricity, security and staff is seen as more support for artists.. i reeeelly dont know.

    But each to his/her own.

lol, i checked out reviews of people who use the site and stuff but i know what you mean. i think im gona look into it some more to be sure cus i cant figure out how its so cheap.. but many places recommend them.

Not sure now, supposedly some issue with the RIAA. but legal downloads > Cd :finey:

Probably won't affect big time companies but small time, green or fresh established publishers may hurt. But since stuff is somewhat expensive and many people I know who doesn't have the leisure of just going out and buying stuff will download for evaluation purposes so if it good then they buy it although this isn't always the case for most people.

Note the clear distinction between stealing and piracy =D

lol your hardly supporting the artist by buying a used product; i.e. The money goes to the person who previously owned the product =p

RIAA is just a load of shit, if you have been following the drama then you probably know why. Also I personally much prefer a physical hardcopy than something from say mp3panda, mainly for backup reasons as your hard drive doesn't live for forever so it will be always there if I need it. Plus CDs you get lossless tracks meaning the full quality unlike these digital distribution legal download sites which mostly provide only lossy MP3 so yeah I'm a quality whore xD, you pay for what you get I suppose.

Actually, that diagram, sidesteps the issue. Piracy isn't just making a copy, but rather it's depriving the rightful copyright holder of potential sales. In effect, destroying his livelihood. That's why piracy is illegal. The piracy is in giving copies away, preventing the rights holder from selling copies. The theft is in the unrealized or lost sales.

I DL movies with the best of them, but I'm certainly not going to sugarcoat it in order to rationalize theft; it is what it is.
